On June 6, 1944—D-Day—the Allied nations launched the largest amphibious invasion in history, storming the beaches of Normandy, France, in a bold effort to liberate Europe from N**i tyranny. Nearly 160,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches or parachuted behind enemy lines. Supporting them were almost 7,000 naval vessels and more than 13,000 aircraft participating in the massive operation.
The cost of freedom was immense. On that first day alone, approximately 4,400 Allied servicemen lost their lives, while nearly 6,000 more were wounded or reported missing.

Today, I ask that you take just a moment to remember those brave men who sacrificed so much for the freedoms we enjoy. The challenges and frustrations we face in our daily lives pale in comparison to what they endured on those beaches and battlefields eighty-two years ago.

A little perspective. A moment of gratitude. A debt we can never fully repay.
