Welcome to the Bouley Family genealogy page. Here I am attempting to pass on memories of the Bouley family. Period of time consumes money, and also words. Boulai, or Boulaie in its feminine form, means a place planted with bouleaux (Birch) trees, which became a lastname, which in turn was spelled Boulay, Boullay, Boule, Boulle, Boullet, Boulet, Boulais, and Bouley. Four men and one woman bearing this family name came to live in New France (Canada): Eustache, Helene, Francois, Nicolas-Louis and our ancestor Robert. Eustache Boulle, born at Saint-Germain-l’Auxerrois about 1600, Son of Nicolas Boulle, secretary to the King’s Chamber, came to Canada in 1618. He held the rank and position of interpreter and lieutenant to the governor. We know that his sister Helene, Champlain’s wife, arrived at Quebec in the summer of 1620. In 1626, Champlain, his wife Helene Boulle and Eustache returned to France. Two years later, Eustache was at Quebec with his father-in-law. Captured by the Kirke brothers in 1629, and returned to France the same year, this honest and pious man joined the Italian Order of Minimes and became a priest.
