Car seats are for travel, not sleep.

Car seats keep babies safe on the road, but they are not safe sleep spaces once you arrive. If your baby is asleep when you arrive, be sure to move them to a flat, firm sleep surface like a crib, bassinet, or play yard to reduce the risk of suffocation or positional asphyxia.

Winter is here, and while we want our kids to stay warm, it’s important to remember that bulky coats and snowsuits can interfere with the effectiveness of their car seat. 🧥❄️ If your child is wearing a bulky jacket, don’t be tempted to loosen the harness to make it fit. All that extra air in the coat can make the harness seem secure, but it’s not tight enough to protect them in the event of a crash. The safest option is to adjust the harness when your child is not wearing a snowsuit or heavy coat. Keep them warm by using a blanket or jacket over the harness instead! 🚗 Let’s keep our little ones safe and warm this winter.

We are excited to announce the launch of our three-year partnership with America’s Poison Centers dedicated to advancing efforts to protect kids from preventable poisonings. Coming together to work on this initiative, we'll leverage data from the National Poison Data System to conduct a joint research study and raise awareness about poisoning prevention with the help of our extensive partner network.

“Safe Kids has a long history of using data and research to ensure the scientific integrity of our childhood injury prevention efforts,” said Torine Creppy, president of Safe Kids Worldwide. “We’re excited to build on that tradition through a strategic partnership with America’s Poison Centers, a leading organization that so clearly shares our commitment to safety for all children.”

When it comes to pool time, putting the phone down is crucial. Drowning is the single leading cause of death in children ages 1-4, but the good news is it's preventable!

According to the National Drowning Prevention Alliance:
• 23% of child drownings happen during a family pool gathering
• 50% occur within 25 yards of a parent or other adult
• 88% happen with at least one adult present

Remember this phrase: "Eyes up at the pool." 👀

Drowning is fast and silent. At least one adult’s full attention is the most important safety measure. This applies not only when children are swimming, but also when they’re playing near an unfenced pool.

Today is International Walk to School Day - a reminder that we share our streets and neighborhoods with our most vulnerable road users, kids! Take some time today to talk to the children in your life about being safe while walking to and from school. Remind them to look left, right, and left again before crossing the street. Always walk on sidewalks or paths, cross at street corners, and use traffic signals and crosswalks.
