🚨 TEACHING FEELS LIKE PERFORMANCE NOW

At some point, teaching stopped feeling like teaching.

You teach…
But the whole time you’re thinking about how it looks.
How it sounds.
What someone would write down if they walked in.

Lessons aren’t built for kids anymore.
They’re built for walkthroughs.

You plan with optics in mind.
You follow pacing guides even when the room needs something else.

You say the right things.
You hit the right timing.
You stay on script.

Even when you know another approach would land better.

Teaching used to be responsive.
You adjusted in real time.
You followed the room.

Now it’s rehearsed.

You’re acting professional instead of being effective.
Performing competence instead of practicing judgment.

And that disconnect wears on you.

Because you didn’t become a teacher to put on a show.
You became a teacher to teach.

To notice.
To respond.
To use your instincts.

But when performance matters more than impact,
instinct becomes a liability.

So you play the role.
You hit the marks.
And you feel yourself drifting further from the work that mattered.

That’s not growth.
That’s erosion.
