Abuse, neglect, and exploitation leave more than physical scars—they can have lasting effects on emotional and behavioral health. As we recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, I invite you to join us for an important community conversation about the hidden wounds many older adults carry and how we can better support healing, dignity, and recovery.

Across our community, we see this reality every single day. Families are being asked to manage increasingly complex medical and caregiving responsibilities at home often without the training, support, or resources needed to do so safely and sustainably.

Hospital stays are shorter. Services are harder to access. Home health agencies are stretched thin. As a result, spouses, adult children, and loved ones are carrying the weight of care that once required teams of trained professionals.

This is not simply about caregiving. It is about a system that continues shifting responsibility onto families who are already emotionally, physically, and financially overwhelmed.

At Marion Senior Services, we are proud to be part of the solution by helping families navigate these challenges through education, support, crisis response, nutrition services, care coordination, and community partnerships. While there is still important work ahead, we remain committed to ensuring older adults and their caregivers in our community do not have to face these realities alone.

This , we proudly recognize and celebrate the incredible EMS professionals who serve our community with compassion, urgency, and unwavering dedication.

At Marion Senior Services, we are especially grateful for our partnership with Ocala Fire Rescue and Marion County Fire Rescue EMS teams who work alongside our Senior Crisis Mobile Response Program to support older adults experiencing behavioral health crises, medical concerns, and moments of vulnerability.

Together, we are doing more than responding to emergencies—we are creating pathways to stability, reducing unnecessary hospitalizations, and ensuring seniors receive the right care at the right time with dignity and respect.

Thank you to our EMS partners for your commitment, professionalism, and collaboration in helping us protect and care for our seniors. We couldn’t do this work without you.
