Our next General Body Meeting is Saturday, October 24th!

What is a general body meeting?
It is a democratic, member-led gathering where local members conduct chapter business, vote on resolutions or endorsements, and coordinate socialist organizing.

What Happens at a General Body Meeting?
Members vote on local chapter business, candidate/policy endorsements, and organizational resolutions. Attendees hear report-backs and updates from ongoing priority campaigns, working groups, and committees (such as labor or ecosocialist groups). Meetings feature discussions on socialist theory, local political terrain, and organizing skills.

Most of all these meetings give new and experienced members the chance to connect, learn about ongoing committee work, and find ways to plug into local actions. 🌹✊

Free film screening this Sunday at 2pm at Blackbird Studio & Gallery!

The film follows community organizers who in their goal to ignite a grassroots movement for health justice, the young organizers, Christian and Aurora, are undaunted. Tested during their fight for local democracy and the right to vote on important issues, the film’s heroes overcome doubt, fear, and powerful resistance as they dare to fight back against the goliath American beverage industry.

Our next DSA 101 is approaching on October 10th from 11am-1pm at Dunnelon Public Library.

A DSA 101 meeting is an introductory orientation session hosted by local chapters of the Democratic Socialists of America for new members and the public. Leaders explain what democratic socialism is, why the group critiques capitalism, and how the national organization and local chapters operate.

Presenters share current community projects, campaigns, and other goals the local chapter is fighting for by way of mutual aid and more.

You should come to our next Socialist Social! It’s our most successful event as a DSA Chapter AND it is free and open to the public.

We bounce around to different third spaces in Marion County and it gives us all time to get to know each other and brainstorm!

Can’t wait to see you for the free film screening of Between the Sun and the Sidewalk at Blackbird Studio & Gallery on Sunday Oct 4th!

BETWEEN THE SUN AND THE SIDEWALK follows two fiercely dedicated young Latino political organizers leading a team of new recruits to mobilize their community to support a sugary drink tax. When the state government passes a stealth law to ban all local soda taxes until 2030, these young activists fearlessly battle the corporate lobbying efforts to block them.

In their goal to ignite a grassroots movement for health justice, the young organizers, Christian and Aurora, are undaunted.
