Oberlin Resource Conservation Team-RCT Like for updates on the Free Store, garden & fun ways to reduce waste. Learn how you can be involved in Oberlin sustainability!

Who We Are: Our mission is to help Oberlin College decrease its ecological footprint and meet its commitment to climate neutrality by reducing the amount of resources it uses and the amount of wastes it produces. By creating closed-loop systems at a low cost, the College can become a more efficient, sustainable, and even regenerative institute. What We Do:
Free Store!- We run the Free Store in the

basement of Asia House as well as the Lil' and Big Swap at the end of each semester. (currently closed due to COVID-19)

Garden!- The Johnson House (J-House) Garden is a student run garden located behind Johnson House. The RCT manages and staffs the garden, working to produce fresh food to donate to Oberlin Community Services and create a space for the community to learn about sustainable growing

Food Rescue- We transport edible food that would otherwise go to waste from dining halls on campus to Oberlin Community Services (OCS) where it is redistributed to community members

Recycling!- We attends meetings and research more effective recycling practices and provides information about recycling to campus and community. We also facilitate waste audits to check up on how well the campus is recycling, and ensure that recycling bins are accessible throughout every building on campus

Compost!- We facilitate a dorm, village and off-campus compost program and help spread information on how to compost. Education/Outreach!- We coordinate freshman orientation activities and RA Training in August and act as liaisons to Custodial Managers and Custodians. We reach out to the broader Oberlin Community for help with our projects and do our best to help them with theirs.

We have huge news... the J-House Garden is turning 16 this April 🎉 to celebrate her eligibility to drive, pay taxes, and get married, we're hosting our second annual SPRINGFEST in the garden! Come by during the afternoon of Saturday, April 25th, for live music, plant-themed crafts, face painting, and fresh spring vibes 🌿 We're also seeking vendors! Individuals and organizations with treats, art, and other goodies (plant-related or otherwise) are welcome to sign up via the link below. We hope to see you there!
