Oaks Indian Mission

Oaks Indian Mission 501(c)(3), residential childcare facility licensed by Oklahoma Department of Human Services. Because walking together is better than walking alone.

The Oaks Indian Mission has roots which run deep into the history of the Cherokee Nation. Officially, the Mission began in 1801, when the tribe invited Moravian missionaries to open a school in Georgia, a few miles from the seat of the Cherokee government. This school would prepare many of the tribe's leaders in the decades following. When the Cherokee were forced to leave their homes and relocate

in Indian Territory, the missionaries left their homes as well, choosing to travel the same "Trail of Tears", reestablishing the mission at what is now Oaks, OK. One of the first school bells to ring in Indian Territory rang there in 1842. In 1902, Oaks Indian Mission became a Lutheran ministry. A residential home for Indian children opened its doors in 1926. This long legacy of quality education and spiritual formation is at the heart of what still makes Oaks Indian Mission a special place for children and the shaping of their future.

90-degree days call for water balloon fun! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐ŸŽˆ

Today's Summer Values Adventure challenge was a Water Balloon Drop, where the kids worked together to keep their balloons from bursting. But let's be honest... on a 90-degree day, everyone was really looking forward to the water fight afterward!

There were lots of laughs, plenty of splashes, and memories made that will last long after summer ends.

Before the weekend rain rolled in, our kids soaked up some sunshine and fun at the pool! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฆ

From splashing with friends to racing down the slide and showing off their diving skills, the day was filled with laughter, smiles, and memories that will last long after the rain passes.

We're thankful for these moments that allow our kids to simply be kids, building friendships, growing in confidence, and enjoying the joys of summer. โค๏ธ

Now we'll enjoy listening to the rain and look forward to the next sunny adventure!

Summer Values Adventure โ€“ Friendship & Kindness ๐Ÿ’™

Thursday, our Summer Values Adventure focused on Friendship and Kindness. The kids had a great time making friendship bracelets while learning how small acts of kindness can help build strong and lasting friendships.

As they picked colors, shared supplies, and helped one another, they were reminded that friendship grows when we choose kindness every day. The bracelets they made are more than just a craftโ€”they're a reminder of the friendships formed and the kindness shared along the way.

๐ŸŒŸ Summer Values Adventure โ€“ Kindness Week ๐ŸŒŸ

Wednesday, our kids learned an important lesson about the power of words. We talked about how words can hurt others and that once they are spoken, they can never truly be taken back.

To help illustrate this, each child crumpled up a piece of paper and then tried to smooth it back out. Even though the paper could be flattened, the wrinkles remained just like the scars hurtful words can leave on a person's heart.

This meaningful activity reminded us that our words have lasting impact. That's why we are choosing kindness, encouragement, and respect as we continue our Summer Values Adventure. โค๏ธ

๐ŸŒž Summer Values Adventure โ€“ Week 1: KINDNESS ๐Ÿ’›

Week 1 of our Summer Values Adventure. Our focus is Kindness, and the kids are learning that even the smallest acts can make a big difference.

On Monday, they painted rocks and wrote kind words and encouraging messages on them to place around communities for others to find. We hope each rock brings a smile to someone's face and serves as a reminder that kindness is all around us.

This is just the beginning! More adventures, activities, lessons, and opportunities to spread kindness are still to come as we continue exploring what it means to live out our values each day.

"Be kind and compassionate to one another." โ€” Ephesians 4:32

Stay tuned as our Summer Values Adventure continues. We can't wait to share the memories, laughter, and lessons ahead! ๐Ÿ’™

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

At Oaks Indian Mission, we are grateful for the sacrifices made by so many who served our country with courage and selflessness. Their legacy reminds us of the importance of love, service, and caring for one another.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, may we never forget those who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we enjoy each day.

Camp Bandage in Broken Arrow was such an incredible experience for our kids! ๐Ÿ’›

It was a hands-on day full of learning, laughter, and real-life skills as they got to explore basic first aid, safety, and how to help care for others in emergency situations. The kids were fully engaged, asking questions, practicing new skills, and soaking up every moment.

We are so thankful for the time, effort, and heart that went into making this event possible. Opportunities like this donโ€™t just teach skills, they build confidence, awareness, and compassion that our kids can carry with them long after the day is over.

A truly meaningful day in Broken Arrow that we wonโ€™t forget! ๐Ÿ’™

The kids had the best Saturday at the Strawberry Festival in Stilwell! ๐Ÿ“

From the smiles to the laughter, the day was filled with so much joy, sweet treats, and memories made that weโ€™ll be talking about for a long time. Watching them explore, enjoy the festivities, and just be kids was such a blessing.

Our Boys had the opportunity to visit Har-Ber Village Museum to kick off the first day of summer break, and what a wonderful day it was!

From exploring history and learning about life in the past to sharing laughs and making memories together in the present, it was a day full of learning, joy, and connection. Experiences like these help our children grow, dream, and appreciate the stories that came before them while creating stories of their own.

We are so thankful for moments like this and for everyone who helps make opportunities like these possible for our kids. โค๏ธ
