In a time that feels more chaotic and uncertain by the day, when shadows of authoritarianism creep ever closer, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or numb. But this is exactly the moment to show up—to rise, resist, and reimagine.

Whether you’re marching in the streets, raising your voice on your platform, or holding your representatives accountable, every act of courage matters.

Yet, as journalist Anand Giridharadas beautifully reminds us in his essay "The Opposite of Fascism," the most powerful answer to hatred and division isn’t more hatred—it’s radical joy.

“The best revenge against these grifters and bullies,” he writes, “is to live well, richly together. Having in your life a sphere for joy, connection and community is everything they are not and is everything they are trying to take away.”

So, in the spirit of joy-as-resistance, I’m creating a space for rhythm, for connection, for soul.

Join us this Sunday, April 20th, for the kickoff of Groove Gathering—a new monthly community drumming event at The Green Yogi in Berkeley. We’ll meet every 3rd Sunday from 1–2:30pm to co-create rhythm, build community, and reconnect with the beat beneath the noise.

Bring your hands, your heartbeat, and your curiosity. No experience needed. Drums provided—or bring your own if you’ve got one!

Let’s fight the darkness with rhythm. Let’s build something beautiful—one beat at a time. 🪘💚
