Last month, over 100 people gathered at ACCFB to honor the 18 graduates and 17 advocacy award winners of the first cohort of the Community Organizing Leadership Academy Program, or COLAP.

Through COLAP, community organizers have learned and practiced skills to fight hunger and advocate for change, building a foundation to collectively make their voices heard, where it can have the most powerful impact. The work of the Food Justice Organizing Task Force led to real wins this year including funding on the local and state level for food security and moves to protect immigrant communities.

The graduation was a community-centered celebration with family, friends, food, stories from organizers and staff, and commendations from county leaders. As Soraya Urrutia, a community organizer said in her remarks that day, “this is the first COLAP, but it’s not the last. The movement doesn’t end today.”

Congratulations to Eat Learn Play Foundation for 7 years of sharing joy, healthy food, books, and more with Oakland kids. We are grateful to be part of this fruitful partnership!

For 7 years, Alameda County Community Food Bank has stood alongside Eat Learn Play Foundation to meet families where they are — with fresh, nutritious food, delivered with dignity and consistency.

Together, we've moved 15 million meals into the community since our founding and the Eat. Learn. Play. Bus and ACCFB Mobile Pantries are a big part of how that happens — bringing food straight into neighborhoods in a way that feels festive, not transactional.

We were excited to host to Denis McDonough, CEO of Feeding America at ACCFB last week! We are the 16th food bank Denis has visited since starting his role at Feeding America. Denis met ACCFB staff and volunteers, learning more about how we're working towards food justice, to end hunger and its root causes in Alameda County.

It was great to have the opportunity to showcase our work, and the incredible people behind it, to someone who is truly committed to supporting our mission.

Thank you to the team of volunteers from Grocery Outlet who came out to volunteer this week during their 16th Annual ‘Independence from Hunger’ Campaign!

Last month, ACCFB and advocates spoke at a Senate hearing in Sacramento in support of AB 2299 (Calderon), which would provide replacement benefits to humanitarian immigrants and other people who are losing their due to federal cuts. PSA: There will be a PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) that includes part of Alameda County in the Livermore area scheduled TODAY, July 15, starting at 1 pm with power turned back on July 16 at 10 am.

Anyone affected by the shutoff can get food from ACCFB distributions in their area. Visit foodnow.net for more information about getting food and pge.com/afn for food resource information from PG&E.

We had so much fun at the County Fair this year! Thank you to all who contributed to the Feed the Need Food Drive at the Alameda County Fair by volunteering or donating.

This year, volunteers collected over 18,000 pounds of food and ACCFB received over $11,000 in donations, funds that are being matched by Albertsons Companies Foundation as part of their Nourish the American Dream campaign.

Thank you you to Patelco Credit Union, Kaiser Permanente, and UA Local 342 Plumbers & Pipefitters Union for volunteering.

It was so special to spend a day at the fair connecting with you all and collecting food for our community. 🥫 🍦 🌞
