Coral Reef Alliance

Coral Reef Alliance The Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) is an environmental NGO that is on a mission to save the world’s coral reefs.

We work around the world to keep coral reefs healthy so that they can adapt to climate change.

It’s 1 PM...do you know where your sewage is? Because it could be right here, hiding in plain sight. Just because the water looks postcard-worthy doesn't mean it isn't struggling with invisible pollutants. You might even be diving in it...💩

But don't worry, we're doing something about it! In fact, just last year we kept 32 MILLION gallons of sewage out of the ocean in Honduras alone.

We’re on a mission to clean up this mess and protect our coral reefs. Find out how 👉 https://hubs.la/Q04lf4hh0

Not all heroes wear capes. Some breathe through their a**s and vacuum the ocean floor (shoutout to sea cucumbers 🥒). Others sleep in a snot bubble and p**p 700 lbs of sand a year (we love you, parrotfish 🐠).

Keeping coral reefs healthy requires a lot of dirty work. So let's give a round of applause this to the real heroes of the reef.

Well, the ocean isn't intentionally lying to you. But now that we have your attention... let’s get real this 👇

It’s easy to look at crystal-clear, turquoise water and assume a reef is thriving. But the reality? Coral ecosystems can suffer long before the damage becomes visible to the naked eye.

This month, we’re exposing the ocean's greatest hidden threats and showing you the science of how we fight back. We still have a window to act, but it requires looking past the surface.

Live webinar today! 📣

Today, our very own Andrea Rivera Sosa is taking the virtual stage! She’s presenting a live institutional seminar with Ecosur Unidad Chetumal to break down the report: "The State and Trends of Caribbean Coral Reefs: 1970–2024."

This is one of the most comprehensive assessment of Caribbean reefs to date. Andrea will be sharing vital insights on how these ecosystems have changed over the last 54 years, tracking everything from coral cover and macroalgae to bleaching events and the coastal communities that depend on them.

Please note: This webinar will be presented in Spanish.

🗓️ Today, May 28th
⏰ 12:00 PM (CDMX) | 1:00 PM (Quintana Roo) | 2:00 PM (EDT)

¡Hoy es el seminario en vivo! 📣

⏰ 12:00 PM (CDMX) | 1:00 PM (Quintana Roo) | 2:00 PM (EDT)

A healthy reef is a busy reef! 🐠🐟

Thriving fish populations are the active "maintenance crew" keeping these ecosystems alive and managing their algae. But this balance is delicate. If the fish thin out, the reefs become a ticking time bomb...even if they might look "fine" for a little while longer.

Protecting fish means protecting reefs, and ultimately, protecting the health of our oceans 💙 https://hubs.la/Q04j2V130

In Maui Nui, we aren’t just playing in the dirt for the vibes✨🌱

We’re out here rebuilding riparian zones (the critical riverbanks and streambeds where land meets freshwater.) In Hawaiʻi, where steep mountains funnel rainwater straight to the ocean, these green buffers are our final line of defense. They hold the soil together and filter out contaminants before they can ever touch a reef.

Healthy reefs start long before the shoreline. Tap the link to see how it works: https://hubs.la/Q04hlmyN0

🪸💩 You don't want to miss this webinar tomorrow! (Someone has to talk about it...)

Wastewater and sewage pollution are among the biggest, most overlooked threats facing our oceans and coral reefs today. But how do we solve a global problem that thrives in the shadows?

Our recent CORAL Connections trip in Indonesia was a breathtaking reminder of why we protect our oceans. From snorkeling with dolphins to diving through a 7.4 magnitude underwater earthquake (!!!), our team and supporters witnessed the raw power and fragility of the “bullseye of biodiversity.”

Amidst the beauty of schooling barracuda and sharks, we also saw the urgent need for conservation action against pollution and illegal fishing. Thank you to the incredible supporters who joined us to recharge their batteries and brainstorm the future of our reefs!

Interested in joining a future trip? We’d love to have you! See what’s coming up: https://go.coral.org/dive

Test your knowledge: What percentage of their day do parrotfish spend grazing on algae and processing coral bits into the sand that forms tropical beaches?

A) 30%
B) 50%
C) 90%
