🥳The Shared Sky Festival is TOMORROW and Chabot Members get a sneak preview!

Our new exhibition, Shared Sky: Photos of Our Universe, officially opens tomorrow! See astrophotography from world-class space telescopes, winning images from the 2026 global Astrophotography Prize, and submissions from the Bay Area amateur astronomy community. 💫

Tactile experiences, gorgeous images, and interactive ways to experience astrophotography can all be found in this new exhibition! 📷

🎨🖌 The opening weekend features a community art project, face painting, a talk on Capturing Star Trails with a Smartphone by youtuber and astrophotographer Nico Carver, and so much more!

Come celebrate the intersection of science and art with us this weekend! We can't wait to share this new exhibition with you all!

Shared Sky: Photos of Our Universe opens with our Shared Sky Festival Weekend on October 10th and 11th!

The Shared Sky Festival brings together art and science together under one sky. Full schedule is soon to come, but on Saturday, astrophotographer and youtuber Nico Carver will be joining us to give a talk on Capturing Star Trails with a Smartphone!

At 1PM in the Theater, learn about the images of star trails and the astronomical questions they provoke. Participants will learn everything they need to know to use their own smartphones to capture beautiful images of star trails themselves!

We're so excited to share this brand-new exhibit with you all! In partnership with the Astrophotography Prize, Shared Sky will showcase the intersection of science and art through astrophotography. In Studio 3, off the Observation Deck, we will be sharing large scale images taken by bay area astrophotographers, the Hubble and Webb telescopes, and images that were a part of this year's Astrophotography Prize!

🦉 Family Nature Adventures: Owls is this Saturday at 10:30AM!

Step into an owl-filled adventure at Chabot. This event is designed for families with young children (ages 3 to 8), and it is all about discovering the secrets of local owls in the redwood forest!

Families and groups will enjoy an interactive workshop where kids can learn about the habits, calls, and diets of local owls. The hands-on experience includes dissecting owl pellets to uncover what owls have been eating.

Then join a guided owl walk in the redwood forest. Bring your own binoculars or use our child-sized pairs to search for signs of these majestic birds in their natural habitat.

Leave with a new appreciation for local wildlife and the wonder of the forest. Adventure is calling, don’t miss out!

Chabot's brand new Shared Sky exhibit opens on October 10th! Join us Grand Opening weekend for Shared Sky Festival - a celebration filled with photography, music, paintings, and cosmic creativity!

Shared Sky: Photos of Our Universe is a new exhibition at Chabot, presenting astrophotography from the world class space telescopes alongside the winning images from the 2026 global Astrophotography Prize competition and the Bay Area’s active amateur astronomy community.

Shared Sky is designed to captivate visitors’ imaginations and curiosity with the stunning artistic work of astrophotographers, local and global, and the masterpiece imagery from the great space telescopes like Hubble and Webb, and soon to come Roman.

The new exhibit will run for a full year and will transform Chabot's largest exhibit space with breathtaking images captured by astrophotographers from around the world.

It's the last Spray Paint & Sip of the year!

On Thursday, September 10th, join us for a special Paint & Sip OUTSIDE! This extra special sip event invites you outdoors to explore the connection between Earth and space through spray paint using natural forms collected in the surrounding redwoods.

Using leaves, branches, cones and other organic materials as stencils and texture tools, you will create layered cosmic scenes - from nebulae to planetary surfaces!

Chabot Paint & Sips are no ordinary sip events - ours include Astronomy Presentations! Thursday's theme is Patterns in Nature & the Cosmos. Discover how the same shapes and processes appear across vastly different scales - from plant structures and erosion patterns to nebulae and galaxies!
