Happy Birthday Marsha P. Johnson 🎉💐👑 and thanks to those who came to Book Club at Oakland Public Library to discuss the book MARSHA by Tourmaline. I’m so grateful this book exists and that everyone gets to learn more about Marsha’s very full life and legacy. She was so much more than Stonewall. She was (in true Virgo fashion) a multi-hyphenate. But what really sticks with me is how selfless she was, and how her living authentically inspired the other queens around her. Wherever she is, I hope she is at peace, and truly free 🪽💚 The postcard in the second pic was made by me!

Dropping this here so ALOK can educate folks on the gender binary. The way they break it down really helps us all better understand how destructive the gender binary is. Imagine a world where every single person was allowed to fully express themselves authentically! There would be significantly less hatred & violence and far more self love.

Q***r history from House Music US ・・Raves didn’t appear out of nowhere.

The foundations of rave culture were built in underground spaces where music offered community, acceptance, and freedom. In Chicago, venues like The Warehouse, led by Frankie Knuckles, became gathering places for people who often felt excluded from mainstream nightlife. In Detroit, a new generation of artists pushed electronic music forward through underground parties and independent scenes.

Long before sponsorships, VIP sections, and social media, these spaces were created by communities looking for somewhere to belong.

The music was important. But so were the people, the culture, and the sense of connection found on the dancefloor.

Never forget where rave culture came from.
