Constitution and Ground rules
I. Our organization, ERI-KGB, is primarily composed of experts, practitioners, professionals, and talented individuals from multidisciplinary fields. Individuals who
are interested in joining our group, irrespective of origin and educational background are welcome to be part of ERI-KGB. As we struggle individually in our respective journey of life, we learned that social support is a very crucial approach to overcome the day-to-day challenges and come out successfully in all respects of challenges in life. Create and Share Career information to prospective and newly arriving immigrants with the aim of developing ways of reducing layoffs, joblessness and/or working in survival jobs.
2. Create a forum for peer-to-peer learning between new and veteran Eritrean immigrants (and other immigrants of other nations) to share their experiences in pursuing their professional career.
3. Form a healthy environment for developing relationship and friendship while reducing social isolations and social stigmatism.
4. Develop important professional tools such as time management, creativity, self-care, and stress management, giving back to community and utilize resources effectively.
5. Work jointly on self-development towards honesty, integrity and better communication skills. We absolutely do not tolerate and strictly do not entertain any political, religious, ethnicity and other community division. This doesn’t mean that people with different political views cannot be members of YEP as long as they keep politics and other divisive thoughts aside. This means that all members of this association solely represent themselves regardless of their affiliations with other organization or social groups. Membership and Leadership
New members will be recruited with the approval of the team. All members will have turns on leadership through a sub committee elected yearly consisting of at three members, a chair, a treasurer, and a secretary to serve up to two terms of maximum of 24 months duration. To help cover some expenses such as refreshments and supplies, members will have an obligation to pay $15 membership fee with the exception of students and those who do not yet have consistent income sources. In addition, we will collect $10 registration fee when a new member is approved to join the team. Ground rules
• Whereas virtual meetings are scheduled on weekends, per request by members, the ground based meetings will be conducted monthly on the last Saturday of each month with the format of:
A15 minutes introduction/new announcement and updates,
A 45 minutes educational session/presentation, followed by a 15 minutes question and discussion from audience,
A 15 minutes summary of meeting and future plan announcement,
And finally a 30 minutes get together and socialization.
• Members are expected to attend at all meetings (except for illness and emergencies). If you can’t attend, notify the facilitator in advance.
• Agendas will be distributed before each meeting.
• Meetings will start and end on time.
• The group will listen respectfully to the opinions of all team members by:
o Using active listening. o Not using “killer phrases” or negative body language. o Brainstorming without editing.
• Information from the meetings is public and should be shared with other stakeholders, but confidentiality will be respected when requested.
• The team owns all ideas and concepts – do not talk disrespectfully about team activities in public. The HEAP team.
