Ride for a Reason

A grassroots effort started in Oakland, California to support public schools. Our legs do the talking. And we like to ride our bicycles.

Ride for a Reason is a political action/fundraiser/cycling event. We ride from Oakland Technical High School in Oakland, California to the Capitol in Sacramento to demonstrate for more funding for public education in California. We use our event to raise money for six Oakland public schools. High-quality public education is a right enshrined in the California constitution, and we think that Califo

rnia is currently badly underfunding its public schools. By many measures, the state of California ranks at the bottom of the nation for funding public schools. We want to make our schools excellent again for all students.

Riders: keep an eye out for the new bike lane approach to the I-80 causeway between Davis and West Sacramento. You'll love it! Use caution at the entrance -- watch for cars coming from the off-ramp at the stop sign!

🚴‍♀️ Sacramento, here we come! We’re just $45K from our fundraising goal and the energy is UNREAL going into this Saturday’s ride.

🚨 R4R NEEDS YOU, OAKLAND 🚨

Ride 4 A Reason is shaping up to be BIG this year (🙌 registrations are 🔥), and we have two urgent roles to fill to make ride day happen:

🚚 TRUCK DRIVER (URGENT)
Help us move bikes to and from Sacramento
📅 April 25 | ⏰ 7 AM–7 PM
📍 Oakland Tech → Sacramento → Coliseum U-Haul
💰 Volunteer or paid
✔️ Valid license + clean record
✔️ Comfortable driving a 20’ U-Haul
🚗 SAG DRIVERS (Support & Gear Crew)
Be the heroes on the course 💪
✔️ Drive alongside riders
✔️ Help with flats + support
✔️ Bring a co-pilot (someone who can fix a bike tire 🙌)
✔️ Must be 25+ + have space for bikes
⏰ Any 4+ hours between 6 AM–5 PM
🍽 Lunch in Sacramento included
✨ All gear provided
✨ Incredible community
✨ Direct impact on Oakland public schools

The Ride for No Reason course check is complete. Course is in good condition for the ride, and we can only hope that Ride Day brings weather like today. The course checkers recommend multiple coffee stops. Your mileage may vary. Get those legs tuned up and get out there and do some fundraising for public schools!
