Co-Founded in 2015 by Gray Davidson and Misha Naiman, Majorelle Arts was created in response to a desire by a unique community of makers and artists to actualize their visions into wondrous and complex realities. The collective origina

lly coalesced around our first sculpture, “The Dancing Serpent", lead by artist and co-founder Gray Davidson. Majorelle Arts continues to expand its portfolio this year with its second major endeavor, “Methuselah”, under the direction of both our co-founder, Misha Naiman and Gray Davidson. Our Projects:

"Methuselah" By Misha Naiman, Gray Davidson and Majorelle Arts (2017)

This year, co-leads Misha Naiman and Gray Davidson guide our crew in the construction of “Methuselah”, a life-sized replica named and modeled after the oldest living tree in the world, a 4,848 year old bristlecone pine located in Eastern California. This 18 foot patinaed steel structure will provide a space which is both beautiful and functional, calm and intricate. At the heart of the piece, a flame effect will burn within the trunk, visible through seams of stained glass bark and reflected in a large convex mirror among the tree’s roots. These roots will form organic benches, providing secluded seating for the weary traveler and the branches will be decorated with chimes whose soft sounds will create a sacred space, a sanctuary set apart from the festival that lies just beyond its reach. Not only an effigy of remembrance and ancestry, the sculpture will also feature an aerial rig point, creating a mystic setting for mesmerizing performances. Funded by a Burning Man Honorarium Grant and IndieGoGo Campaign
Fabricated in Ardent Heavy Industries studio at American Steel Studios Oakland, CA

"The Dancing Serpent" By Gray Davidson and Majorelle Arts (2015)

Our first sculpture, “The Dancing Serpent”, was constructed from the vision of lead artist Gray Davidson. At 28’ long, this steel and stained glass mobile swims through the air by harnessing the power of the wind with its bright red sail, commanding the utmost respect with its fierce head and whipping tail. During the day its clear glass body mimics the evolutionary elegance of the oceans best camouflaged predators. As the light fades, the dorsal fins and head feature propane fueled flame effects that burn up to 2’ high, suggestive of mysterious bioluminescent creatures of the deep. Since its debut in the Black Rock Desert “The Dancing Serpent” has been featured at Oakland’s “Autumn Lights” festival and won three blue ribbons at the 2016 Maker Faire. Funded by a Burning Man Honorarium Grant
Fabricated in Envelope Engineers studio at American Steel Studios Oakland, CA
