🌱 June 8th Casual Community Night and Potluck (and Ajay’s birthday!) + small group topic focus on EBPG governance and planning 🌱 RSVP at link in bio!

Our June meeting is our relaxed hangout and potluck. We alternate between guest speaker nights and open, community-led evenings, and this month is all about connection, sharing, and weaving together. Bring ideas you’ve been chewing on, projects you have in mind, or any other topics you’d like to discuss as a community!

Some of the Guild leadership will be hosting a small group discussion about our governance and strategic planning; we are eager to listen to your ideas and feedback about this important topic!

🕕 6:00–6:45 PM Potluck dinner + arrivals. Bring a dish if you can (please label allergens). Hot plates OK, no stove use.
🌀 6:45–8:30 PM Announcements + small group discussions. This is a free form-space style evening — if you have a project or idea you want to discuss, just name it and gather folks. Besides our strategy discussion, other topics might include the OPC garden, general garden advice, composting systems, disaster preparedness, land access, alternative economies, mutual aid or seed savings.

All experience levels welcome. This is a grassroots, justice-oriented space centering racial equity, land back, and collective resilience. Kiddo friendly!

📍 Oakland Peace Center – Grace Room, located downstairs (The building can be a maze; someone will be helping direct folks from 5:45-6:15p)
🌿 Garden partnership: We’re partnering with the Oakland Peace Center to support their medicinal/edible garden restoration – we will share more details at the meeting!

✨ Helping out: We’re looking for volunteers for setup/cleanup, door greeting, photo documentation – sign up via spreadsheet on Partiful

May 11th is the second Monday — you know what that means! 🌿

This month, you will...
💡 LEARN about resilience hubs and how permaculture can be a defining feature.
🗣️ SHARE your ideas about how the Oakland Peace Center can become a resilience hub.
🏘️ ACTIVATE your own community space and neighborhood as a resilience hub.**

Guest speaker: Susan Silber from Collective Resilience (and a member of the Guild leadership team).

Many thanks to Ava Community Energy for co-sponsoring this workshop; they will be sharing details about some of their progams, including their exciting $2500 community sponsorship grants program.

** What is a resilience hub??
🌟Many cities around the country are moving beyond traditional “emergency response” to build decentralized networks of community spaces serving as resilience hubs (also called “community resilience centers”) - libraries, community centers, places of worship and other trusted sites in our community transformed to both build social cohesion and prepare and respond to disasters. They are centered on equity, sustainability, and deep relationship building with the goal that support is always within a “15-minute walking radius” of those who need it most.

Come early (5:30!) to physically walk the Oakland Peace Center garden and see some of the amazing progress we have been making! Sunset is around 7:45pm this time of year so we’ll have light!

🍲 Bring a dish to share and label allergens
