Meet Aric Moirao, Oakland Lacrosse’s first-ever Helmets High School Program Coordinator! 🥍

Aric supports student-athletes at Skyline, Oakland Tech, and Oakland High, bringing experience as a career counselor, recruiter, Bay Area lacrosse coach, and mentor.
For Aric, saying “yes” to OLC was easy:

“Sports gave me guidance and community when I needed it most, and now I’m honored to help young athletes find the same strength and support through lacrosse.”

Aric is all about helping players grow on and off the field, with a special focus on what it means to be a great teammate: staying positive, uplifting each other, and showing up for the people around you.

And one fun fact? Before coaching lacrosse, Aric competed in powerlifting with a 405 lb squat, 265 lb bench, and 465 lb deadlift. So yes, he knows a thing or two about strength. 💪

At this year’s OAL Championships, Oakland Lacrosse recognized two coaching alumni whose impact continues to shape our community today: Adrian Bjune and Lena Zentgraf.

Adrian is an Oakland Tech graduate, former Helmets player for Tech, and longtime OLC coach who gave seven spring seasons to our NCJLA and OAL high school teams from 2019–2025. Through the pandemic, the shift to a decentralized league, and years of change, Adrian was the glue for our kids, our players, and our community.

Lena was OLC’s first-ever Goggles lacrosse coach, leading the GU12 team in spring 2013. She continued to show up for OLC through nutrition workshops, workouts, tournaments, and later as the Oakland Tech Goggles varsity coach from 2014–2019. Under her leadership, Oakland Tech developed a strong community around girls in sports while also fostering high-level competition as the only varsity girls lacrosse program in Oakland public schools at the time.

Adrian and Lena demonstrated what it means to be an OLC coach: going above and beyond for players, removing barriers to participation, and living out our core values.

Please join us in giving Adrian and Lena two claps as the first coaches inducted into OLC’s Huddle of Fame Legacy Class.

We are proud to be in this huddle with you. 💜🥍

Photos: Lena couldn’t make it out to the championships this year so shared photos with her kids and with OLC Alumni Terranique.

Tahoe bound. 🥍

Before the Goggles team hits the field in Tahoe , we asked them what they’re working toward — for themselves and for each other.

Here’s what they had to say.

Meet Hayden Cook, OLC’s Program Manager! 🥍

Hayden leads our middle school and high school programming, from recruiting players and building teams to coordinating academic support and enrichment opportunities.

Hayden first joined OLC in 2018 as a graduate intern, and after one season of coaching, he knew this was where he wanted to be.

“I love the relationships and connections that are created at OLC. My own connections with scholars, co-workers and members of the community have been meaningful, but seeing students connect has been one of the most gratifying parts of my experience.”

For Hayden, sport is at its best when it creates space for learning, growth, joy, and belonging. He knows firsthand how much a caring coach, supportive teammates, and a positive environment can shape a young person’s life, and he brings that sense of responsibility to his work every day.

One value he tries to model for youth? Humor and humility.

“Laughter and joy build trust, and young people learn best when they feel comfortable being themselves. There’s a lot of fun, good, and growth to be had when we can get goofy and truly play.”

Fun facts: Hayden started surfing and playing lacrosse in the same year of middle school and hasn’t stopped since. He loves cooking for people, thanks to his mom, who is a chef and cookbook author. And every year, he and his dad travel together to watch the NCAA lacrosse Final Four and championship games.

We’re lucky to have Hayden on the OLC team! 💜

In October 2025, Oakland Lacrosse Club launched the Helmets Rising Initiative with a bold goal: expand boys lacrosse programming to six Oakland high schools by Spring 2029.

One year in, the foundation is strong.

Through Helmets Rising, OLC rostered 50 high school student-athletes to three teams, introduced 1,700 boys to lacrosse, hired our first High School Helmets Program Coordinator, and brought boys lacrosse back to Skyline High School.

The real story is bigger than the numbers.

It’s Skyline returning to the field and making it all the way to the championship game.

It’s Oakland Tech building consistency, culture, and a stronger legacy, with alumni returning as coaches.

It’s Oakland High making program history with its first-ever wins and a young squad that will only get better.

It’s student-athletes showing up, working hard, building confidence, and proving that boys lacrosse has a future in Oakland.

Year one showed what’s possible when young people have access to mentorship and a community that believes in them.

Defense starts with awareness, communication, and commitment. Our players are learning how to hold their ground, support their teammates, and make every shot harder.

Every drill builds confidence. Every rep builds trust. Every save, stop, and hustle play helps the whole team get stronger.

Keep showing up. Keep protecting the cage. 💪

Dreaming of Tahoe 2025 and getting ready for 2026! 🥍⛰️

Last summer, our Goggles players took the field in Tahoe with grit and a whole lot of Oakland pride. From big plays to team bonding to the kind of moments that stick with you long after the final whistle, this trip was about growing together and developing as leaders.

And now we get to do it again. Our Goggles players started summer training this week and are heading back to Tahoe this summer.

We’re so excited to see them compete, connect, and make new memories in 2026.

Tahoe, see you soon. 💜
