10 years ago we founded OPEN - Oakland Public Education Network on three main principles. We were devastated after our schools had been closed in 2012, but determined. We somehow built something out of nothing and found a way, while always staying true to our core principles. There is still more work to do, but we’ve come a long way and implemented so many of the changes we were dreaming about 10 years ago. Looking back it’s been an amazing journey, and personally I’ve gone from coach Mike on the playground to Director Hutchinson on the Oakland School Board. I’m proud, and honestly shocked, of what we’ve accomplished, and I’m excited about what comes next.

Coming together to advocate for quality, public, neighborhood schools for all of Oakland. A founding member of the Journey 4 Justice national alliance.

As schools are currently recruiting family leaders to join their School SIte Councils or SSC's, we offer this session to orient parent-family leaders to the SSC.

Your participation is very important to the school community and OUSD! Family voice is critical in school site planning and decision making on how resources should be used to support students.

Interpretation in Spanish, Cantonese, Arabic and Mam will be available.

The Oakland school has been deluged with harassment and racist threats after conservatives on social media criticized a "playdate social" event.

The San Francisco School Board has called a special meeting on August 29th to begin the process of mass school closures.

“The BOE will be asked to authorize the superintendent to develop bold proposals actionable in one year to: ……. Recommend additional measures to align the District’s operations with current and projected enrollment, including criteria for potential mergers, co-locations, or closures of school sites.”
