Oakland Youth Chorus Since 1974, the Oakland Youth Chorus transforms young people’s lives through excellence in music education and community performance.

We empower and amplify the voices of our future culture keepers, change-makers, and global citizens. The Oakland Youth Chorus, now a program of the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, was founded in 1974 with a mission to empower youth through music education and performance. Based in Oakland, California, the chorus provides opportunities for children and young adults to explore and develop their musical talents, while also fostering a strong sense of community and social responsibility. Led by a team of experienced music educators and professional musicians, the Oakland Youth Chorus offers a wide range of programs, including after-school and in-school choirs, summer camps, and workshops. The chorus also collaborates with other local arts organizations, performing at various community events and concerts throughout the year. The Oakland Youth Chorus is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all young people, regardless of their musical background or experience. By promoting artistic excellence, cultural understanding, and social engagement, the chorus seeks to inspire and uplift the next generation of musicians and leaders in the Oakland community and beyond.
