Friends of Mother Earth

Friends of Mother Earth We achieve this by organizing local Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) that safeguard lives, homes, and infrastructure.

Friends of Mother Earth focuses on disaster preparedness, community emergency response, recovery, mitigation, and climate adaptation through the development of Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) and other community-based resilience initiatives. Friends of Mother Earth empowers communities to: 1) respond effectively to climate-driven emergencies; 2) prevent deforestation and biodiversity lo

ss; and, 3) foster a sustainable, resilient future for Bolivia’s people and ecosystems. Through locally led initiatives, these CERTs integrate disaster preparedness, recovery, mitigation, and climate adaptation to strengthen community health and ecosystem resilience.

🚨 More than 900 students ready to respond in an emergency.
That's what was achieved at the emergency drill held at Unidad Educativa Chimboco, in Sacaba, Cochabamba.
We were invited by the UGR of Cochabamba to participate as evaluators in this exercise, an opportunity we deeply value and are proud to have been part of.
The drill was organized by the UGR of Cochabamba and the UGR of Sacaba, with the participation of institutions including SAR Firefighters, Police Firefighters, UGR Firefighters, and the Red Cross, among others. Prior to the exercise, students and teachers were trained so they would know exactly what to do when disaster strikes.
It all started with a decision from the school itself: to seek help and be prepared. That's leadership. That's resilience. 💚
At Friends of Mother Earth, we are grateful for the invitation and reaffirm our commitment to supporting these initiatives across Cochabamba and Bolivia.
Preparedness can't wait. 🌿

Friends of Mother Earth (Amigos de la Madre Tierra) recently launched Bolivia’s first Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Train-the-Trainer program, held in February 2026 at the Universidad Mayor de San Simón in Cochabamba. The 40-hour course certified 25 instructors from six departments and more than fifteen organizations, creating the first national cohort of trainers capable of replicating CERT programs in communities across Bolivia.

We are seeking mission-aligned individuals to join our Board of Directors to help guide strategy, strengthen governance, and support fundraising and partnerships as we scale this national effort. Board service is an opportunity to contribute to a high-impact, community-led model for disaster preparedness in one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries.
