New Music Bay Area New Music Bay Area hosts The Garden of Memory every June 21st from 5pm-9pm at The Chapel of the Chimes/ 4499 Piedmont Ave. / Oakland, CA

The first concert of 20th Century FORUM/New Music Bay Area was on 12/9/89. First concert billed as "A Saturday Night in the 20th Century"-Greg Stephens, Founder, 20th Century FORUM

The name was later changed to New Music Bay Area, and is now headed by Sarah Cahill.

So very sorry to hear of the death of the enthusiastic and vibrant supporter of New Music, Russ Irwin who left us on Friday, September 25th. Another hole that cannot be filled. We will remember the joy he brought.

We are thrilled to partner with New Performance Traditions for our upcoming production of William Shakespeare's epic tragedy KING LEAR, playing September 25–October 11 at Z Space in San Francisco!

This is our most most ambitious project to date, featuring a cast of 30; and music composed by Paul Dresher and performed live by the Dresher|Davel Invented Instrument Duo.

Directed by OTP Executive Artistic Director Michael Socrates Moran, the production features the “irrepressible” (SF Chronicle) J Jha (Angels in America, Mahābhārata) as Lear; and renowned performer, singer, and writer Rinde Eckert (Ghost Quartet) as The Fool.

In the twilight of his rule, a king sets out to divide the kingdom among his three daughters. But in mistaking flattery for love, Lear’s foolish choices usher in a new reign of domination, cruelty and collapse.

As a self-styled “bastard” sets out to upend the ruling order, Lear must confront his own part in the kingdom’s downfall.

Can he transform in time to reclaim what is sacred before the clown show becomes the new order?
