On Saturday, March 8, 2014 the Oakland Police Foundation, in coordination with The Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Make Oakland Better Now!, recognized Oakland Police officers who have made great strides with the Ceasefire crime-fighting strategy.

Ceasefire is a violence reduction strategy that partners law enforcement officers with a broad cross section of community stakeholders and agencies to reduce shootings and homicides and remove the most violent offenders from our streets. Violent crime is down in East Oakland neighborhoods thanks to Ceasefire.

The event, honoring those who exemplify community policing partnerships, was held at Acts Full Gospel Church, 1034 66th Avenue. Among the honorees were Captain Kirk Coleman, District 5 Commander; Captain Ersie Joyner, III, who manages the OPD Ceasefire and Compstat programs; Lieutenant Trevelyon Jones; Sergeants Richard Niven, Fred Shavies, Anthony Todesco, Kevin Reed, Jeffrey Smoak and Steve Valle; Project Ceasefire Manager Reygan Harmon; Crime Analyst Andrea Van Peteghem; and the following officers: Officers Jose Barocio, Ross Curtin, Chris Marie, Daniel Bruce, Eric Karsseboom and Jurrell Snyder.
