Did you spot an updated tradition at this year's Autumn Glory Parade? 👀

Autumn Glory parade awards have been around for years, and we decided it was high time they got a little love! We enlisted local artist Katie McGehee to give ALL 11 (!) of the wooden leaf awards a fresh coat of creativity, and they made their colorful debut at this year's parade!

We also helped give the award categories a refresh. Amateur, Professional, and Commercial got a little confusing in years past- especially as times change. So this was an opportunity to celebrate more of what makes our parade special, from artistic talent and clever ideas to hometown traditions and the people who make our community shine.

Here's what those newly painted leaves represent:

Grand Champion: The strongest overall parade entry that year.
Mayor's Choice: A special selection by the Mayor.
Artistic Excellence: Outstanding artistry, design, and visual presentation.
Harvest: A celebration of autumn colors, imagery, and traditions.
Community Spirit: Bringing people together and celebrating our community.
Originality: An especially imaginative or unexpected idea.
Showmanship: Costumes, music, performances, and parade-day entertainment.
Rising Star: Recognizing the creativity and achievements of our youngest participants.
Mountain Heritage: Celebrating our roots through the history, traditions, and rural character of our region.
Creative Spark: Clever construction and creative use of everyday or unexpected materials.
Acorn: Recognizing those planting seeds for the future through education, service, and community growth.

We hope these refreshed awards will become a beloved part of Autumn Glory for many years to come!

And a big round of applause for Katie, whose beautiful painting brought new life to a beloved tradition. She's available for everything from individual painting commissions to murals and large-scale projects. So whether you have a little idea or a REALLY big wall, keep Katie in mind!
