✨Culture as Currency just dropped! ✨

The Betti Ono Experince, our monthly newsletter, just hit inboxes. This offering dives deeper into the work that we do, the connections we foster, the partnerships we nurture, and our community, whose work and existence we steadily, and stedfastedly amplify.

This month, our founder, Anyka Howard, shared reflections on the power of culture as currency –

“Culture as currency means we are never bankrupt. Even in the face of violence, even in exile, even under the heavy weight of injustice, we generate value that the world cannot calculate.”

SANKOFA MOMENT: Looking back to this day BLACK TULIP marched to City Hall on October 15th at 3:30 pm to support the resolution of H.R.7354 - Protect Black Women and Girls Act. Our community joined together in solidarity to advocate for the future safety of Black women, girls and gender expansive folks! Due to the BLACK TULIP seeds we’ve planted - the City of Oakland became the first to make a resoluton and proclamation adopting the Protect Black Women and Girls Act. Y’ALL DID THAT!!! And then some.

As we reflect on and honor October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, on behalf of the BETTI ONO team, we want to express our deepest GRATITUDE for your incredible artistry, radical leadership, heart and devotion during our inaugural BLACK TULIP™ Cultural Week of Action. From October 3rd - October 5th, 2024 we radically re- imagined care, safety and protection for the vibrant identities of Black women and girls in Oakland!

As a local, national, and global community, we must continue to honor the legacies of Nia Wilson, Zoe Nika Reidy-Watts and the other sacred lives of Black women, girls and gender expansive folks who are continuously going missing, being violently harmed, murdered and trafficked. We are calling forward collective care. We invite you to Take the Pledge and stand with us everyday to Protect Black Women and Girls.

Visit the link in our bio to take the pledge and watch the innagural Black Tulip: Cultural Week of Action video.
