CARA members joined healthcare workers and community advocates for a powerful "die-in" to protest federal healthcare cuts that could jeopardize care for millions.

Participants highlighted the human impact of proposed Medicaid and food assistance cuts, warning that reduced funding could force hospitals to cut services, increase barriers to care, and leave vulnerable communities without critical support.

Healthcare is a human need, not a privilege. We stand with those fighting to protect Medi-Cal, Medicare, IHSS, CalFresh, and access to care for all.

Today, the California Alliance for Retired Americans (CARA) hosted a powerful 2026 Virtual Lobby Day. Members from across the state came together with passion and purpose, lifting up the urgent issues facing seniors, people with disabilities, and the communities we call home—especially when it comes to accessing quality, affordable healthcare.

Throughout the day, regional teams met directly with legislators, asking critical questions and demanding accountability on the policies that impact our lives.

This is just the beginning—together, we will keep pushing for the care, dignity, and respect every Californian deserves. We will continue to organize, build power, and ensure real change is achieved for seniors, people with disabilities, and our communities.

On Friday, April 17, retirees, veterans, labor leaders, and community advocates gathered at Kern Medical Hospital for a powerful and urgent rally demanding the protection of
healthcare and essential benefits for older adults.

Hosted by the California Alliance for Retired Americans (CARA), the “Stop Taking Our Health Care” event spotlighted the real-life impact of policy decisions on seniors and call on leaders to
safeguard programs that millions depend on.

CARA members will always stand up for all the basic necessities (healthcare for all, the ability to retire with dignity, and a secure retirement) that help to build and maintain healthy communities. California Alliance for Retired Americans (CARA) and the LTSS4All Coalition showed up strong for IHSS! 💜 Advocates from across the state visited legislative offices and attended the Assembly Budget Subcommittee hearings on Health and Human Services to speak out for IHSS.

Cuts to IHSS would put critical care at risk for thousands of Californians who rely on it to live independently and safely. CARA is proud to stand with them and make sure lawmakers hear that these services are essential.

Retirees know the truth — the healthcare system is broken, costs keep rising, and too many seniors are forced to choose between prescriptions, rent, and groceries. That’s why CARA is standing with the CalCare movement to win single-payer, guaranteed healthcare for everyone in California. We’re organized, we’re united, and we’re ready to fight for a system that puts people over profit — because healthcare is a right! 💪🏽🏥✊🏽
