Key Accomplishments:
• In partnership with our allies, we defeated the fossil fuel industry-funded Props 16 and 23, which would have repealed California’s landmark clean energy and climate solutions laws.
• We convinced Oakland to pass one of the strongest climate action goals of any major US city — 36% below 2005 levels by 2020 — and inspired San Jose to boost its goals as well.
• We released
our Community Resilience Toolkit, a comprehensive, multi-sector action guide for local organizers. One year later, it had been downloaded by over 600 leaders in 44 states and 21 countries.
• We won accolades from the American Planning Association for our study, Tapping the Potential of Urban Rooftops, which confirmed the potential for roof gardens, rainwater catchment, and solar power. Our follow-up companion, the Use Your Roof Guidebook, was also featured in The New York Times.
• We helped build rooftop and community gardens in Berkeley, Oakland, Richmond, and SF, providing opportunities for over 500 residents to learn hands-on skills and see viable models for local resilience.
• We co-hosted the Clean Power, Healthy Communities conference where 175 clean energy advocates organized for financing strategies, innovative policies, and action plans to boost local renewable power.
• We released Building an Equitable and Resilient Bay Area outlining a comprehensive strategy for localizing food, energy, housing, transportation, manufacturing, and finance in the 9-county Bay Area.
