Rooted in Resilience

Rooted in Resilience We are catalyzing a movement toward a regional, national, and international self-reliant economy that

Key Accomplishments:

• In partnership with our allies, we defeated the fossil fuel industry-funded Props 16 and 23, which would have repealed California’s landmark clean energy and climate solutions laws.

• We convinced Oakland to pass one of the strongest climate action goals of any major US city — 36% below 2005 levels by 2020 — and inspired San Jose to boost its goals as well.

• We released

our Community Resilience Toolkit, a comprehensive, multi-sector action guide for local organizers. One year later, it had been downloaded by over 600 leaders in 44 states and 21 countries.

• We won accolades from the American Planning Association for our study, Tapping the Potential of Urban Rooftops, which confirmed the potential for roof gardens, rainwater catchment, and solar power. Our follow-up companion, the Use Your Roof Guidebook, was also featured in The New York Times.

• We helped build rooftop and community gardens in Berkeley, Oakland, Richmond, and SF, providing opportunities for over 500 residents to learn hands-on skills and see viable models for local resilience.

• We co-hosted the Clean Power, Healthy Communities conference where 175 clean energy advocates organized for financing strategies, innovative policies, and action plans to boost local renewable power.

• We released Building an Equitable and Resilient Bay Area outlining a comprehensive strategy for localizing food, energy, housing, transportation, manufacturing, and finance in the 9-county Bay Area.

Excited to unveil the music video for my original song, Return to Community (Gotta Lotta Livin' to Do)! It's ridiculously cheesy, but I was really feelin' this one. 😂 Getting back to community living will be key to a more compassionate, greener world. Peace y'all! ✌️

Americans stand at a historic crossroads. Either we persist with the pursuit of narrow, imperial aims, risking the lives of millions in an ever-escalating war over resources and control; or we join the world community as partners for peace, dedicating ourselves anew to democracy and human rights for people of all faiths and backgrounds. It’s not too late to step back from the abyss.

Important study showing how loss of income and the soaring cost of housing has led to our surge in homelessness. The good news: it would only take around $300-$500 in monthly supports to keep many folks housed on a sustained basis.

Homeless Californians report that job losses and financial setbacks – not addiction or mental health crises – caused them to lose their housing.
