Do your children seem “overly sensitive”? Perhaps loud in their emotions, opinions and purpose in life?

I learned so much about myself when I discovered what it meant to be a HIGHLY SENSITIVE PERSON.

An HSP is someone who experiences life at a heightened volume because the nervous system and bodymind is actually perceiving more bits of information with their senses. I

If you’ve ever been without food or suffered the agony of digestive distress, you know how miraculous it is to eat a meal without pain.

How about turning up the pleasure of nourishment by feeding your body, mind and heart?

When I was away on silent meditation retreat for 30-days in December 2015, meals were one of my favorite moments of the day to simply BE with the luxury of human life.

We eat, p**p and breathe, all the time!

For me, during many years of my adolescence and young adulthood, those natural activities had been absolute torture.

So now, with many opportunities to get lost in the autopilot of eating alongside the energy drain of technology, I am reminded that meal times are a natural reminder to unplug, enjoy and power up!

In stillness and quiet, food is such an adventure of the senses!! Can you treat yourself to a savory or sweet exploration, by committing to one silent meal each day?

With children, you can create a mindful meal habit of beginning the first 5-minutes in silence. Set a timer and simply eat, chew and breathe.

I feel so enlivened after teaching my Wise Expression (W.E.) Play program in elementary schools! This 4-5th grade class in Oakland is soaking up the stillness, spaciousness and silence of our brain and body rest.

It was a lot of fun to bring attention to our experience (just moments before) when I sprinkled the box of breathing buddies out on the floor. We practiced the pause of noticing our natural joy, preferences and reactions to these colorful relaxation creatures joining us for the first time.

Students shared which specific animals caught their attention, the rush inside their body to go grab one, and happiness from observing all the colors and kinds. They all expressed great care and will power in staying on their mats. We celebrated our ability to notice and pause and then slowly chose the one that we were drawn towards.
