The West Oakland Green Initiative (WOGI) is a nonprofit grassroots, community-based organization with a successful track record that spans over a decade. We achieve this by improving the quality of the air we breath, by restoring a sustainable and balanced urban ecosystem for our neighbors to live in, and by educating residents about the importance of a day-to-day connection with nature in one of

the most polluted inner-city neighborhoods in the state of California. WOGI creates local jobs, conducts research and trains at-risk youth by creating pollinator-friendly gardens, planting street trees and maintaining our urban forest. We are the authors of the first West Oakland Reforestation Plan and have planted hundreds of trees throughout our neighborhoods with the support of Federal, State and City agencies as well as the many individuals who passionately contribute their time and resources to our cause.
