The "Danger Crew" a smaller portion of the volunteers that aided in removing trash from those tough to reach places. What is left of the trail is pretty gnarly and takes quite a bit of bravery to transverse through the tougher bits. But we removed an additional 6 bags of paint cans and garbage.

The St. Mary's College rowing team came out to volunteer with Friends of Leona Heights Park for the 2018 International Coastal Clean-up day. Called Creek to Bay Day in Oakland it is one of our yearly events where we get in the park and do some work. I say this often about the groups of volunteers that I work with, that they are awesome and that I am always amazed at how much they can accomplish, but this group was grade A volunteers for sure. Without a doubt they accomplished a great deal of work in record setting time. With 33 bags filled with aerosol cans removed representing over 825 cans, 35 bags of garbage, and 10 bags of french broom pulled all within TWO hours! They were awesome and if any of you St. Mary's rowing team members are reading this THANK YOU! I worked along the Bay for a while I remember often finding aerosol cans along the shore. They float so well so the amount we have prevented from making there way into the waterways is astonishing. As always if you or anyone else would like to get involved come out to our events the next one likely being held on M.L.K. Day. Otherwise message us and we will connect. Thanks again girls you were great Go Gaels!

Volunteers needed! Meet at 4444 Mountain Boulevard, Oakland. We will provide the tools, but if you want to bring your own trusty w**d wrench, loppers, gloves we welcome it. You will want to bring some water to drink and a snack if you get hungry. There are several sites that broom is becoming a problem and needs your attention. Not only does the broom crowd out natives it also represents a significant fire risk. Please come on out and help us remove some broom. Also there are patches of ivy that are expanding in the park so if french broom ain't your thing we got ivy as well. If you want more details please contact us through our FB page.
