FREE conservation planting demonstration on Wednesday! These pictures are from 2023.

Heavy rains can wash dirt into our streams and lakes, and that can lead to algae blooms. A simple and inexpensive way to slow the erosion is to create buffers with plants. Join Friends of Messalonskee and 7 Lakes Alliance to learn what plants are best to use, how to identify where they should go, and how to prepare the ground for best results.

When: 1:00pm – 3:00pm, Wednesday, June 17, 2026
Where: Oakland Lakeview Cemetery Park (meet at Oakland Boat Launch Gazebo at 22 Belgrade Ave.)

Pics from Tuesday, June 9. This is the wonderful New England Milfoil removal crew we hired to DASH milfoil that is too deep to hand pull and volunteers Doug Fischang and Bob Nardi hauling out their largest load yet. 1,800 pounds!

I’m behind. These came in Friday. ANOTHER 1,200 pounds of milfoil DASHED out of our lake by NE Milfoil, picked up, and hauled away by volunteers Bob Nardi and Doug Fischang.
The DASHING work is expensive. FOM and 7 Lakes are doing our best for you. Is your FOM membership paid? We cannot do this without significant help from you.

Feast your eyes on the finished product. Earlier in the week, 7 Lakes Association’s Youth Conservation Crew was on Messo building water filtration steps from a camp down to the lake. Here’s the crew plus 2 pics of the competed steps. Aren’t they fantastic!! Great looking and so much better for the lake than hard-surface steps. 🤩👏🏽 Contact FOM or 7 Lakes if you’d like more info.
