Happy Earth Day 🌱

Reflecting back on the history of Earth Day is not only grounding but reminds us how far we’ve come (despite the current setbacks we’re facing), the progress we’ve already made, and the work that lies ahead of us.

In our 350 Bay Area community, Earth Day is every day. But when the day comes on the calendar, it’s a reminder to take a step back and reground in our collective promise to continue to envision and fight for a greener and more equitable future for us all.

As we celebrate Earth Month together, it’s also National Volunteer Appreciation week! 🙌

At 350 Bay Area, it’s our volunteers who power everything we do. More than 60 dedicated volunteer leaders, alongside hundreds of others stepping up in big and small ways, make this movement what it is—supported by each other, and our small but mighty staff. This roots us deeply in our local communities and keeps our grassroots movement growing ever stronger.

Our advocacy rises from the communities we’re part of and fighting for.

All of us together are:

📋 Making it easier for people to understand critical climate issues—and to take action press their elected officials to pass effective policies
✍️ Out in the community tabling, clipboarding, and gathering hundreds of signatures for campaigns like Make Polluters Pay and other critical issues
🏢 Mobilizing locally to advance utility justice through city resolutions
📝 Digging into policy research, pushing back on false solutions, and calling out fossil fuel industry talking points
🤝 Creating spaces for connection and action through regular meetings with teams like our Youth Mobilizing Team, Transportation, Clean Energy, Fossil Fuel Resistance, and local group gatherings

One week ago, 8 million people flooded the streets. Across the Bay, our movement held down 7 different Make Polluters Pay contingents out of the more than fifty across the country! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Not only did we rally as a community, we mobilized people to take action against giving Big Oil legal immunity and got them plugged in to take action on May Day. 💥📢Want to take these actions too, and sign up for our training? Link in bio! ✳️

With these ongoing heatwaves and potential for brown outs with another added hike in our utility bill, it’s a good time to join our energy equity team and learn about the ins and outs of the current for-profits system set in place. And taking meaningful actions!

Sometimes it’s hard to pause and recognize the progress we’ve made in this space when we’re faced with constant setbacks and threats to our lives and the futures we’re fighting for.
