We're proud to support 33 community organizations bringing books, joy, and literacy-rich experiences to Oakland youth and families through our Summer 2026 Action Grants. Together, these grantees will distribute more than 4,000 books and serve over 3,300 students across the city. The programs they're running look as different as Oakland itself: a Juneteenth celebration honoring the freedom to read, an ocean-themed summer camp book club, a farmers market storytime, a Native American community library being built from scratch, and a roller skating event where kids earn books through performance. What unites them is a shared belief that reading is for everyone — and that it's best done together.
