We’re excited to welcome Aliza Schnayer as Girls Inc. of Alameda County’s new Chief Development Officer! ❤️

Aliza joins us from Oakland-based Destiny Arts Center, where she spent the past nine years as Deputy Director, Institutional Advancement.

In her new role, Aliza will lead our Development Team and work closely with donors, partners, our Board, and the broader community to strengthen the support that enables our programs.

Attention Alumnae ages 18–24: Join our New Bold Futures Mentorship Program! ❤️APPLY BY TOMORROW, 8/14

We’re still welcoming mentees to our new Bold Futures Mentorship Program, designed to connect our alumnae with professional mentors who can offer guidance, encouragement, and insight as you navigate college, career, and whatever comes next.

Through Bold Futures, mentees will have opportunities to:

✨ Explore career pathways and professional goals
✨ Build skills and confidence
✨ Grow their professional networks
✨ Set personal and career goals with support from a mentor
✨ Gain guidance as they navigate school, work, and early career decisions

Plus, participants are eligible for up to $450 in incentives:
💵 $50 for attending the first event
💵 $400 stipend for completing the program, based on participation requirements

This summer, our high school participants took their career exploration beyond the classroom and into the workplace through hands-on internships across the Bay Area! ❤️

From architecture, engineering, and environmental services to construction and community-building, these experiences gave participants the opportunity to build professional skills, learn from industry experts, explore potential career paths, and see firsthand what it’s like to work in a professional environment.

Wishing all of our participants, caregivers, fellow educators and staff a strong, smart & bold start to the new school year!

We're proud to partner with Oakland Unified School District and local charter schools to provide afterschool programming on campus, while also welcoming girls from across the East Bay to our programs at the Simpson Center for Girls.

Whether they're discovering a new passion, building confidence, strengthening friendships, or reaching for ambitious goals, our programs help young people thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

As we wrap up an incredible summer, we're reflecting on the many community partners who helped make learning come alive for the 600+ children, teens, and young adults we served across our summer programs.

Because of your partnership, our participants explored college campuses, stepped into STEM labs, discovered careers in engineering, transportation, biotechnology, construction, and healthcare, connected with inspiring professionals, attended their first Giants game, paddled across the Bay, and experienced hands-on learning that expanded their confidence and sense of what's possible.

This summer, Girls Inc. of Alameda County served 600+ children, teens, and young adults across a continuum of programs fostering academic, leadership, and personal growth.

Each component of our summer curriculum is intentionally designed to build resilience, community, and confidence while exposing youth to new resources, experiences, and social capital.

Here's a snapshot of this summer's impact:
📚 320 elementary-aged youth built literacy skills, explored through field trips, stayed active through sports, and grew their confidence.

🔬 98 middle schoolers built sisterhood, explored hands-on STEM (including coding), developed leadership skills, and experienced learning on a college campus.

🎓 149 high schoolers prepared for college, explored career pathways, participated in internships, strengthened their health and wellness, and developed workforce readiness skills.

💼 36 young adults in our Expanded Learning Apprenticeship gained paid work experience, supported younger participants as program leaders, and took free college courses.

Thank you to our staff, volunteers, community partners, and supporters for making a summer of learning, growth, and opportunity possible for every young person we serve. ❤️

🎉 Congratulations to Simpson Strong-Tie on 70 years of strengthening communities!

We were honored to join the Simpson Strong-Tie team for their 70th Anniversary Give Back Event, where employees rolled up their sleeves alongside Girls Inc. of Alameda County staff to stuff nearly 1,000 backpacks for TK through middle school students.

This day was a powerful reminder that Simpson Strong-Tie's impact extends far beyond the products they build. For decades, Simpson Strong-Tie and the Simpson family have invested in our mission through philanthropy, volunteerism, career exploration opportunities, and the creation of the Simpson Center for Girls. Their partnership has helped thousands of girls grow up strong, smart, and bold.

What an incredible week of learning and career exploration at the 2026 WTS International Capital Summit! 💙

The Summit took place at the University of Maryland, where youth and mentors from across the country came together to explore careers in transportation, engineering, infrastructure, and STEM.

Throughout the week, participants tackled team-building challenges, toured major transportation and infrastructure projects, connected with industry professionals, and gained firsthand insight into the many career pathways shaping our communities.

We're especially grateful to our partners at WTS SF Bay Area Chapter for making this opportunity possible. Together, we're helping girls build the confidence, skills, and connections to become the next generation of leaders. ❤️

A group of our participants made it on the jumbotron at a San Francisco Giants game thanks to their 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame' Program! ⚾🧡

For many of our youth, this was an opportunity to experience something new, spend quality time together, and create lasting memories while cheering on the Giants.

We're grateful to the San Francisco Giants for recognizing organizations serving our community and helping make experiences like this possible for youth.

Our high school participants visited Casa Sanchez Foods for an immersive experience exploring the beloved Bay Area, family-owned business best known for its iconic tortilla chips and fresh salsas!

Girls learned about the company's history, toured the production facility, and gained insight into the many careers that contribute to bringing a product from concept to consumers' tables.

The experience also featured a Q&A with members of the Casa Sanchez team, providing participants with the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions about leadership, career pathways, and entrepreneurship before concluding the day with reflection and a product tasting.

Thank you to Casa Sanchez, Danette Winkler, and Linda Renteria for opening your doors and investing in the next generation of leaders and innovators.
