100 Black Men of the Bay Area The Bay Area chapter of the 100 Black Men of America, Inc.

consists of a group of leading African American men from various professional backgrounds including business, government, education, medicine, law, finance, technology, sales, real estate, enginee The 100 Black Men's efforts are based on a simple principle-through sustained mentoring programs young people realize their potential. Four For The Future represents the four areas in which the 100 delivers their core programmatic initiatives. These program focus areas are designed to inspire youth, their families and members from the communities in which they live to develop self-reliance, to achieve immediate and long-term goals and to strive for excellence in the following areas:

"Confidential Therapist to the Stars, Champion of the Community"

DeShannon Williamson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, private practice owner, licensed real estate broker, and author of The MEG: The Mental Health Empowerment Group Workbook. He provides therapy to individuals and professional athletes in the NFL and MLB, and also serves as a therapist for the Probation Department. Growing up in East Oakland without consistent Black male role models shaped everything about why he does this work. A member since 2017, he created the chapter's Mental Health Committee and built the Mental Health Financial Support Program from the ground up, which has now funded more than 1,000 therapy sessions and helped secure some of the largest grants in the chapter's history. New Member of the Year his first year in 2024 and Black Excellence Community Pioneer of the Year. Masters Degree in Social Work from Cal State East Bay. Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Black Americans face a 30% to 54% higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease compared to white Americans, driven by early-onset high blood pressure, systemic and social barriers, and higher rates of conditions like diabetes and obesity.

The 100 Black Men of the Bay Area have a FREE heart screening using new non-invasive technology on Thursday 10/15 at 4:00 PM at the California Ballroom Downtown Oakland.

"Turning Obstacles into Opportunities"

Robert Harris grew up in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, earned his J.D. from UC Berkeley's Boalt Hall in 1972, and spent 34 years as an attorney and business executive at PG&E. His legal legacy is foundational: he helped build the Charles Houston Bar Association into the force it is today and is a member of its Hall of Fame. He co-founded the California Association of Black Lawyers in 1977, presiding at its very first meeting, and has received CABL's Loren Miller Award and Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1979, he became the first West Coast attorney ever to serve as President of the National Bar Association. He also served as the 27th Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi and the 43rd Grand Sire Archon of Sigma Pi Phi (the Boulé), and received the NAACP's William Robert Ming Award, the NBA's C. Francis Stradford Award, and Kappa Alpha Psi's Laurel Wreath. Author of Goodbye, Arkadelphia! Inducted into the SF State Hall of Fame. Recipient of the 100 Black Men of the Bay Area Lifetime Achievement Award, 2014.

The Junior 100 Career Coaching and Mentoring Program kicked off on September 30th from 6pm to 8pm, at D. Monaghan’s on the Hill. Twenty-five young men joined us, supported by eight members/ Mentors from the 100 Black Men of the Bay Area. We shared dinner, introduced ourselves, and heard participants speak about their goals and what they are thankful for. The room was full of conversation and possibility.

Each participant received a Life Plan Workbook to help him think beyond a single career choice. Together, we discussed the careers they want to pursue, the steps they have already taken, and what they hope their lives will look like at 30, from work and income to family and community involvement. We also asked what they want people to say about them as men and what legacy they hope to build.

This was the first of eight sessions, held both in person and virtually. We look forward to supporting these young men as they develop their plans, connect with mentors, and work toward graduation. Participants who complete the program will receive a $500 stipend.

When we take the time to pour into them today, teach them financial literacy, expose them to new possibilities, and help them build a strong financial foundation, we are planting seeds that can impact generations.

Joseph C. Frank Sr. is a Senior Financial Advisor and Certified Financial Planner specializing in Wealth Management. A Wells Fargo Premier Advisor for over two decades, he was recognized as the top African American Financial Advisor nationally at Wells Fargo in 2022. A member since 2013, he chairs the chapter's Career Expo and serves on the Economic Empowerment Committee, also helping establish the chapter's 100 Investment Account. The 100 Black Men of the Bay Area Junior 100 Career Coaching & Mentoring Program is now accepting applications!

For young men ages 18–25 who live in Alameda County.

This 60-day program is designed for young men who have graduated from high school or earned a GED and are ready to take the next step toward their future.

✅ Career Coaching & Mentorship — We will connect you with professionals in the career field of your choice for guidance, mentorship, and career support.
