On April 3, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. almost didn’t attend the Memphis rally. Exhausted and under threat, he initially stayed behind—until a call came urging him that the people were waiting.

That night, he spoke anyway.
“I’ve been to the mountaintop…”

Less than 24 hours later, he was gone.

Yet his words remain—reminding us that even in moments of uncertainty, showing up still matters. It only takes one small step to keep the Dream alive.

🏔️ What moment in your life was your mountaintop?

Tonight on American Idol, we are reminded:
the light is not coming… it is already here.

It sounds like the voice of our youth.
It looks like courage rising.

Meet Abayomi Lewis—our Bay Area princess 👑
singing truth, healing, and hope into the world.

She is not just the next generation—
she is the generation carrying us forward.

🕯️ Her voice is a reminder:
even in darkness, we sing our way into the light.

🤍 Vote for Abayomi today. 🤍

Family, one of the greatest joys after the Rally was hearing your beautiful reflections:

“I left with something I didn’t know I needed.”

Inspired by the stories.
Moved by the heartaches.
And encouraged by the reminder that hope isn’t passive — it’s something we carry.

Because the truth is —
the light isn’t coming.
It’s already here.

With you. Inside you.

For those who missed our 35th Annual celebration —

We gathered.
We listened.
We celebrated.
We remembered.

Our rally video will be released in a few days.

We cannot wait to share it with you! 🖤✨

This love was once illegal. In 1958, Mildred Loving and Richard Loving chose each other anyway.

They loved quietly. Persistently. Bravely.

In 1967, love didn’t just win — it changed the law.

♥️ 1958 • Mildred Loving, a Black & Native woman, and Richard Loving, a white man, married in Washington, D.C.

♥️ Arrested and criminalized for their marriage in Virginia

♥️ Forced to leave their home and community

♥️ 1967 • The Supreme Court rules Loving v. Virginia, legalizing in*******al marriage nationwide

Love didn’t just win — it changed the law. This Valentine’s Day, we honor love that refused to disappear. 🌹

Tonight on American Idol, we celebrate a dream unfolding. 🌟

With courage in her heart and poetry in her bones, Abayomi Lewis — singer, songwriter, poet, and Brave New Voices Champion — steps onto the national stage as she competes on Season 24 of American Idol tonight!

At just 16 years old, carries a voice shaped by healing, truth, and hope — reminding us that youth have always been the heartbeat of change. Martin Luther King Jr. taught us that hope is not passive; it lives through action, courage, and the willingness to be seen.

Tonight, hope sounds like her voice.
Tonight, the dream sings.
Let’s cheer her on, celebrate her bravery, and witness what happens when a young soul dares to shine. ✨💛

😄 Go Abayomi! 🎉

🎥 Her full performance at our 35th Annual MLK Rally is coming soon — a wonderful reminder of what happens when young voices are lifted. ✨

Special Thanks to Congresswoman Barbara Lee

We extend our deepest gratitude to Congresswoman Barbara Lee for her unwavering dedication and service to our community. Her steadfast commitment to social justice, environmental sustainability, and economic equity has profoundly impacted the 12th District of California.

Notably, Congresswoman Lee has been instrumental in securing significant federal funding for local initiatives. She applauded the announcement of over $300 million for the Port of Oakland, aimed at transforming it to zero emissions, thereby strengthening the local workforce and providing sustainable transportation alternatives.

Additionally, her efforts led to a $4 million grant awarded to the Port of Oakland for zero-emissions initiatives, underscoring her commitment to environmental justice and reducing carbon emissions in our region.

As she transitions from her role in Congress, we are inspired by her legacy and look forward to her continued leadership, especially with her recent filing to run for mayor of Oakland.

Thank you, Congresswoman Lee, for your tireless advocacy and for being a beacon of hope and progress in our community. Your work continues to inspire us all.
