Dignity begins with being able to receive without shame.

During Women’s Month, Safe Place International joined the Muntric community, reaching more than 50 women, girls, children and grandmothers with clothing, shoes and essential supplies, including sanitary pads for girls and young women.

One young woman shared, “Sometimes you have to choose between food and pads. Having someone come here and give us these things without making us feel ashamed means a lot.”

For us, that is what community-centered impact looks like: meeting real needs while protecting dignity, building connection and reminding people they matter.

When women feel seen, communities begin to heal.

Today, Safe Place International honors the life and legacy of Dolly Parton.

The world knew her music. Millions also experienced the impact of her generosity.

Dolly used her success to create opportunities for others, champion education, strengthen communities, and remind people of the power of kindness.

That is leadership.

At Safe Place International, we believe leadership is not only about where you stand. It is about what you make possible for others.

Dolly Parton leaves behind a powerful example of what can happen when influence is used in service of people.

Thank you for the music, the generosity, and the lives you helped change.

Rest in peace, Dolly. 🤍

Nyacira graduated from The Dream Academy. Their leadership didn’t stop there.

Using the skills, support and connections developed through TDA, Nyacira continues to show what community-centered leadership can look like in practice.

On August 16, Safe Place International, in partnership with Hearts of Gold, visited Neema Mercy Centre in Ruai — home to 58 children between the ages of 1 and 18.

The day was about more than delivering supplies.

Together, the team prepared meals, helped with cleaning, played games, shared snacks and words of encouragement, and provided food and dignity essentials to the centre.

For the children, it was a day of joy, laughter and being reminded that they are seen and cared for. For the centre, the support also provided meaningful financial relief.

And for us, this is why leadership development matters.

Graduation is a milestone. What leaders continue to do with their skills, relationships and commitment to community is where the impact keeps growing.

Invest in leaders. Invest in the communities they serve.

Mondays are for developing the leader you already are. 💜

At The Dream Academy, leaders strengthen their skills, put them into practice, and grow their capacity to create lasting change in their communities.

And when you complete the journey? Well… you’ve earned the cake too. 🎓🎂

Because at SafePlace International, we take leadership development seriously.

The cake? That’s just a bonus. 😉

Ignited leaders create viral change. 🔥

When leaders are equipped with the skills, support, and resources to grow, their impact spreads — through the people they lead, the initiatives they create, and the communities they strengthen.

At SafePlace International, we invest in leaders from marginalized communities, supporting them to turn lived experience, ideas, and leadership into lasting, sustainable change.

Develop. Equip. Empower. Transform.

Invest in the leader. Multiply the impact. 🧡💜

You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to know where your support can make a difference.

We help leaders turn their ideas into action, giving them the tools, resources and opportunity to create lasting change in their communities.

Sometimes, the most meaningful investment is in the person with the vision to build what comes next.

Leadership takes many forms. For Kabonge Danniel, it meant finding a way forward when access to formal employment became a barrier.

Daniel is the Executive Director of Refugee Independence Support Organisation (RISO) and a human rights defender based in Nairobi, Kenya. When documentation barriers made accessing sustainable employment difficult for members of his community, Daniel and his team turned to poultry farming as a pathway toward income and greater independence.

🐣 The RISO Poultry Project was born.

Through SafePlace International’s Social Impact Project (SIP), funding supported Daniel’s community-led solution and helped create opportunities to share skills and address everyday needs.

Today, income from the project is helping members of the community cover necessities such as transport and upkeep—including getting to important DRS/UNHCR appointments to follow up on their cases.

Daniel’s vision is to grow the project further, expand its impact and move the community beyond what he describes as “survival mode.”

This is leadership in action: community leaders identifying solutions, building opportunities and creating change where they live.

Leadership begins with opportunity. It grows through learning, confidence, experience, and the support to put those things into action.

At Safe Place International, leadership development is at the heart of our work. We invest in people—equipping them with skills, resources, and continued support to lead in ways that respond to the needs of their own communities.

And that leadership takes many forms.

It can look like speaking up. Organizing. Advocating. Building a project. Creating opportunities for others. Standing alongside your community and helping move it forward.

The second image captures that leadership in action, with Masi taking the lead at Pride.

This is why we invest in leaders: when people are equipped to lead, their impact reaches beyond themselves.

Every leader starts somewhere. And then they lead.

A new semester of The Dream Academy is approaching. 💜

Before we welcome our next cohort, we’re looking back at what TDA looks like in action.

There are lessons and conversations. Questions and new skills. But there’s also laughter, banter, birthday wishes, and people building genuine connections across borders.

The Dream Academy brings LGBTQIA+ leaders together to learn, grow, strengthen their leadership, and prepare to turn what they learn into action within their own communities.

Soon, a new cohort will begin that journey.

You can help make it possible.

Your donation helps SafePlace International provide the training, resources, and continued support that make The Dream Academy possible — from the first class to the impact participants go on to create in their communities.

What does it mean to show up for a community when people are facing a difficult moment?

At Safe Place International, it can mean making sure an LGBTQI+ refugee has food for the month. It can mean emergency financial support when someone is in crisis. It can mean equipping a community leader through the Dream Academy with the skills, healing, and support they need to create change.

And sometimes, it starts with $15.

$15 can provide a month of food support for an LGBTQI+ refugee.
$50 can provide emergency financial assistance to someone in crisis.
$100 can support a month of Dream Academy leadership training.

These are not just donations. They are resources placed directly into the hands and communities of people building a safer, more resilient future.

Someone’s next meal, safe moment, or opportunity to lead could start with your gift.
