💥 FIGHTS & FUNCTION 2026 💥
What if boxing had a tailgate culture like football?
On August 8, we’re bringing Oakland together for something bigger than a boxing show.
FIGHTS & FUNCTION is a community celebration featuring 19 amateur bouts, live music, food vendors, local businesses, artists, and hundreds of friends, families, and supporters gathering around the fight down at the park. Think fight night meets tailgate party.
While our athletes compete inside the ropes, the community will be outside connecting, eating, dancing, supporting local vendors, and celebrating Oakland culture.
Most importantly, this event helps support the work we do year-round through Vertical Skillz Outreach, providing mentorship, fitness, leadership development, and opportunities for youth across Oakland.
We’re currently seeking sponsors who believe in investing in young people and building stronger communities.
Whether you’re a small business, corporation, or community partner, there’s a sponsorship level for you. From championship belt sponsorships to ringside experiences and event visibility, your support directly impacts the next generation. This isn’t just a logo on a flyer.
It’s a statement that you believe Oakland youth deserve opportunities, mentorship, and a community that shows up for them.

For six years straight, he got up early to run, went to school, came to training, and still found the discipline to handle homework, meal prep, and everything else life threw his way.

Last Box & Brunch for adults was nothing but good energy, community, sweat, music, healing, laughs, and love. 🥊✨

People came to move their bodies, connect, and support something bigger than boxing. Every single event reminds me why we do this. Community really is currency.

Welcome Eli!!
We going vertical together.

Eli, founder of Elate Nutrition, will be offering personalized nutrition guidance, diabetes education classes, and workshops focused on building healthier eating patterns through the Vertical Skillz nonprofit. For those needing extra support, customized nutrition plans will also be available, all with the goal of helping close the nutrition education gap in our community and build healthy communities.

One thing I truly pride myself on as a community advocate, Coach and “former” educator is being able to introduce my student athletes to real champions in all walks of life.
Because our youth are not just athletes or “jocks.” We are beautifully complex human beings with curiosity, dreams, creativity, and the ability to connect with people from all backgrounds and industries. I want them to see the world bigger than the ring, bigger than Oakland, and understand that greatness comes in many forms.
We stay open to learning, meeting new people, trying new things, and being inspired by those who uplift others through their work and presence.
Here’s my champion Nassir with one of Oakland’s own champions, Dr. Akilah Cadet. Grateful for people who continue to pour wisdom, love, and motivation into our communities; to remind us to KEEP BEING AMAZING!

Everyone go give this champ a big HAPPY birthday! Wow time flys. We been rockin for 14 yrs. Been through ups and downs, but most importantly our community has seen you become an outstanding young gentleman that anyone can count on. Integrity and honesty has made you an amazing young man. We will always give you your flowers everyday champ. Keep being you and working hard. Sky’s the limit! Go vertical.
