Oakland Pride 2026 was a whole day of joy. 🌈

This year's theme was Pride, Power, and People, and that's pretty much exactly what the day felt like. Our team was out there with the crowd, talking to folks who stopped by the table, passing along info, and celebrating with thousands of Oaklanders.

If you came by to say hi, ask about what we do, or just take it all in next to us, thank you. You made it.

Same time next year, Oakland. 💗

We're not the same blood, but we're still a sisterhood. 💗
Real talk: some of the strongest family you'll ever have isn't the one you were born into. It's the women who show up. Who save you a seat at the table. Who check in just because.
That's what you'll find here at Serenity House. No judgment, no having to explain yourself twice. Just women who get it, showing up for each other.
Got someone like that in your life? Tag her below 👇 she deserves to know it.

Self-care gets sold to us as candles and bath salts. Most days it looks more like saying no, or asking for help before things get bad.
None of it has to be earned first. That's the part people skip.
The last box is blank on purpose. Add yours below, we read every one.

There are plenty of reasons to be discouraged right now. We're choosing this instead.

Housing, food, community, and each other. None of that pauses because the news is heavy.

Thank you to every woman in this video for making this place what it is.

That number comes from California's statewide child care report, and it hasn't been close for years. Behind it are families patching together grandparents, neighbors, and schedules that collapse the moment one person gets sick.

Here's what that means in practice. A job offer comes in, but the shift starts before any center opens. An interview goes well, but there's no one to watch the baby during training week. So the job goes to someone else, and the gap on the resume grows, and the longer it grows the harder the next offer gets. For a lot of parents, mostly mothers, that's the whole story of why they're out of work. Not effort. Not skills. A missing spot.

Nobody can work their way out of a system with no open doors.

-----

Ask anyone on our team why they show up, and you’ll get a different answer every time… a sister they carry with them, a baby they’re building a future for, a reason that’s entirely their own. That’s what keeps this work going. 💜
What’s yours?

Just a little Serenity House office fun today 🤪💛 Turns out every team has a fashionista, a yapper, and a few other very important roles.

We hear "starting over" a lot. It makes it sound like everything before now got wiped clean.

It didn't.

The women who come to Serenity House show up with full lives behind them. Jobs they held. Kids they raised. Situations they handled with no backup and no room to get it wrong. That is not a blank slate. That is experience most people never had to earn.

What changes here isn't who she is. It's what she can finally get to. A space, a program, women who have been exactly where she is, and enough steady ground to use what she already knows.

Zero would mean nothing happened. Something happened. She got through it.

We still get asked why she didn't just leave. And look, we understand why people ask it, but after enough years of this you realize the answer is almost never about courage. It's about money, and it's about where she's supposed to sleep that night.
The California Partnership to End Domestic Violence put out a statewide needs assessment this year. 73% of survivors said their financial situation affected whether they could leave. 28% had been denied housing because of the abuse itself, which is the part people don't expect. It isn't just that she has nowhere to go. It's that what happened to her follows her onto the rental application.
By the time someone calls us, she's usually already decided. What she doesn't have is an address. So we provide emergency shelter, and that stops being the thing standing in her way.
None of that runs on grant timelines. It runs on people giving. Link's in our bio if you want in.
