All Planting Justice sites will be closed in honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Monday, 10/12/26.

Both nurseries are closed.
The Mother Farm is closed.
There will be no Mobile Farmers Market Truck at Pogo Park.

If you have the day off, support Native-led work in your region! And scan the QR code to access Sogorea Te’ Land Trust’s recommended reading list. Read something from the list, and then talk to your friends and family about what you learned.

What a great fruit tasting event (and secret 10th anniversary farm celebration) we had this past week! It is always such a delight to share the abundance of the farm with community, and watch people experience a new fruit. It’s all hands on deck at our school sites this fall. With the summer offically coming to a close (though Bay Area Summer is just getting started), there is so much work to be done at our school gardens, and youth in our programs have been spending these first weeks with their hands in the soil, pulling spent plants, seed saving, and enjoying the seasonal gifts from the garden. We are so lucky to be able to grow year round, but it keeps us busy!

Join the Planting Justice Mother Farm team at our 4-acre orchard and food forest in El Sobrante at 10:00am on Thursday, Sept. 24 for a farm tour and tasting of our paw paws and other fall fruit. It’s a fundraiser and fun-raiser celebrating the fruit grown at the Planting Justice Mother Farm in El Sobrante!

The 6-member PJ Mother Farm team nurtures two trees / bushes of each variety to grow scion and cutting wood for propagation at our East Oakland Nursery, so we’re able to grow over 1,000 varieties of fruit on limited land, and the fruit from our pairs is a bonus to share with our community and distribute to neighbors in need.

We’ll start at 10:00am with a short tour of the PJ Mother Farm–a unique urban farm with fab views of Mt. Tam–then we’ll enjoy the many varieties of paw paw, jujube, pineapple guava, chilean guava, prickly pear, and pomegranate. We’ll also have farm jams and possibly some farm honey available for sale!

The event is limited to 40 people, and is on a sliding scale to assist access and opportunity to support our work.

Repost from trybe : Right now, people without dependents are at risk of losing CalFresh - one of the most important resources in helping keep our communities fed during these challenging times.

The Alameda County Food Sovereignty Roundtable has been working closely with community-based organizations around our county to come together and show that we are not going to let CalFresh work requirements push our people off of these much-needed benefits.

⏩ Check out bit.ly/CalFreshworkhours for helpful info on what the work requirements are and how to navigate them - including a City-by-City list of places where you can find volunteer or work hours to complete your requirements.

🫂 Let’s help each other meet any exemptions or fulfill this new policy in order to keep our people on CalFresh in the short term. In the long term, we will fight to reverse these federally-imposed requirements.

Fall is fast approaching, which means its back to school time for our Education Team. As we start a new school year, we are looking back on all the great moments we had with our youth interns this summer! From harvesting collard greens to cooking together, making herbal teas, and learning how to preserve the abundance by making jams, this summer was full of learning, growing, and collaboration. We are so excited to see what this new school year brings and to see our alumni share their knowledge, ideas, and curiosity with their community!

We will be closed this Labor Day, in celebration of all workers! May we continue to strive for a society where those who actually do the work are not just compensated fairly, but honored and celebrated. And while we’re dreaming, maybe a society in which worth and value of living beings is not tied to economic productivity and everyone’s basic needs are prioritized and met before anyone worries about shareholders? But we digress.

Our jujubes are popping off! Great for eating fresh, dried, cooking, or making tea, they are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to support blood and qi of the heart and spleen (Talk with an acupuncturist for more info on medicinal uses).

We are going to have samples of so many varieties of jujubes at our El Sobrante Nursery today, so come on in for a taste test. Over 25 varieties! Then make a plan for finding space in your garden for some of these amazing plants. We’ve got jujube plants at both nurseries, so shop in person or online!
