HOPE Collaborative

HOPE Collaborative Our mission is to advance racial, economic, and health equity in Oakland through community-driven food and neighborhood initiatives. Food Systems, 2.

The HOPE Collaborative envisions vibrant Oakland neighborhoods that provide equitable access to affordable, healthy, locally grown food; safe and inviting places for physical activity and play; sustainable, successful, local economies—all to the benefit of the families and youth living in Oakland's most vulnerable neighborhoods. The HOPE Collaborative brings together Oakland flatland community mem

bers and organizations to transform neighborhoods by promoting access to healthy, local food and safe places to live and play. We help neighborhoods build community wealth by advocating for programs and policies that support a locally owned food system. The HOPE Collaborative has three action teams: 1. Built Environment, 3. Economic and Civic Community Ownership.

Join us for a guided hike at Lake Chabot! Spend time in nature and share your ideas about the future of East Bay Regional Parks! During the hike, we’ll explore Lake Chabot, learn about native plant species and how they contribute to healthy ecosystems and cleaner air, and participate in an interactive activity along the trail. No previous hiking experience is necessary!

HOPE Collaborative is working with the East Bay Regional Park District as it develops its District Plan, and we want to hear directly from Oakland youth about their experiences with parks and green spaces. We want to learn what encourages youth to visit parks, what barriers make it difficult to access them, and what would make regional parks more welcoming, accessible, and engaging. At the end of the hike, participants will complete a short Youth Parks Survey. Survey completion is required as part of participation, and feedback will be shared with the East Bay Regional Park District to help inform its District Plan. Take our survey and be entered to win gift cards from Uber, Clipper, and more!

-What to Bring
Please come prepared to walk and spend time outdoors. We recommend:

HOPE Collaborative is partnering with the East Bay Regional Park District to better understand how youth and young adults (ages 14–24) in East and West Oakland experience parks, trails, and green spaces. The East Bay Regional Park District is currently developing its District Plan, a long-term planning document that will help guide future investments, programs, and improvements throughout the regional park system.

The purpose of this survey is to hear directly from young people about their experiences with parks. We want to learn what encourages youth to visit parks, what barriers make it difficult to access them, and what improvements would make parks more welcoming, accessible, and engaging for young people.

Survey respondents will be entered to win gift cards from Uber, Clipper, and more! Fill out our survey here: bit.ly/HOPEparkssurvey

Reflecting on an incredible year with our Youth Action Board. Over the course of 7 months, our Youth Action Board members learned about food justice, environmental justice, community health, redlining, the impacts of colonization and how these issues affect our communities. and that shape our communities. They strengthened their public speaking skills and leadership skills. The program concluded with youth creating a video featuring a puppet show focused on the impacts of data centers on our communities.

Thank you to each Youth Action Board member for your dedication, curiosity and commitment this year!!!!!
