Copied from Greek Americans for Harris—so true. 😓 (The good news is, I believe, that in CA at least, most Greek Americans ARE Dems and@ are outraged by racism and the orange guy.)

Let me ask this question: If a D candidate (esp one for US President) intentionally called George Stephanopoulos "George Slopadopoulos", just how many R Greeks would be completely outraged? But now: radio silence. (I have a difficult last name that most people can neither properly spell nor pronounce and that's OK - but if someone intentionally called me "Krapolomitis" that can be construed as an ethnic-based insult.) This is an extremely minor issue in a campaign full of critically important issues, but the hypocrisy I see from our community is astonishing. SMDH

Our Chapter Scholarship Application is open! We will be awarding two $1000 scholarships to qualified, female-identifying people from Alameda and Costra Costa Counties planning to attend an accredited college or university in California in Fall 2022.

Our chapter has supported Building Futures in various capacities for more than a decade, including last year's successful diaper drive, where we collected more than $2,000 in diapers, wipes, and monetary donations. The pandemic has resulted in a sharp rise in incidents of domestic violence, which has led to more women and children needing the services that Building Futures provides.

This year our goal is $2,000. Please help us by donating what you can, because every little bit helps in this strange, challenging time. (So far we’ve raised $750!)

Building Futures is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowable by law. Our federal tax ID number is 94-3100741.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, our meeting tomorrow, March 14 is CANCELED. All other activities at the Church are canceled as well until further notice. Decisions regarding our April 4 meeting will be made at a later date.

Hey Sisters! We're hosting a diaper drive on January 19 at the after-Church Coffee Hour to support Building Futures in San Leandro, which provides support to Alameda County families in need of shelter, domestic violence support, and housing services. We'll be collecting child diapers (any size; open packs OK), unscented wipes, and money (makes checks payable to "Building Futures"). Or drop off your donations to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension office.
