Where do the minerals in your phone come from?

Communities in places like the Democratic Republic of the Congo are closely tied to global tech — yet too often excluded from its benefits.

We need a just transition that works for people and the planet.

(View the letter in our bio!)📢 Exciting Update! 🌟
We are thrilled to share that on Friday, November 15, our collective efforts reached an important milestone. We submitted a digital trade letter to Senator Padilla with endorsements from numerous environmental, labor, and consumer rights organizations. Our aim is to advocate for the enactment and protection of three crucial pieces of legislation:
1️⃣ Automated Decision Systems Accountability Act of 2024 (AB 2930): Ensuring transparency and accountability in automated decision-making processes.
2️⃣ Artificial Intelligence: Training Data Transparency (AB 2013): Promoting openness about the data used in AI development to foster ethical and responsible innovation.
3️⃣ Right to Repair Act (SB 244): Empowering consumers and independent repair businesses by granting access to necessary tools and information for fixing electronic devices.
Thank you to the organizations who contributed their support and signatures. We’ve taken an important step toward a more transparent, equitable, and innovative future! 🚀

Outside the Palm Springs Convention Center• N Calle Alvarado & E Amado Rd, Palm Springs, CA 92262

As senior officials representing countries across the Pacific Rim gather in Palm Springs for an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum this month, please join labor, human rights, environmental and community organizations for a press event and rally calling for the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) and any other Asia-Pacific trade deals to prioritize the interests of working people and the planet over corporate profits.

Background: The United States is hosting the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forums for the first time in a dozen years, and a main item on the agenda is the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) — a massive new trade deal that would set rules governing approximately 40% of the global economy.

Lobbyists for Big Tech and other corporate interests are working behind closed doors to insert rules into IPEF that increase their power and profits. To get a trade deal that benefits working people and the planet, we need to ensure negotiators are hearing our voices, too.

Upcoming APEC meetings in Palm Springs in February, Detroit in May, Seattle in August and and San Francisco in November are important opportunities to make our movements heard.
