Council of UC Staff Assemblies (CUCSA)

CUCSA is the Council of University of California Staff Assemblies. CUCSA is comprised of two delegates from each of the UC Campuses.

We work to address staff issues and promote better conditions for everyone across the entire UC system. They meet once per quarter at a different campus to discuss and address staff issues.

Food insecurity for UC Staff is an ongoing concern that CUCSA has been working towards shedding light on. Pictured is the UC Berkeley staff food pantry, operated by their Staff Assembly. Other campuses such as Davis, Riverside, and Santa Cruz (amongst others) also have staff pantries that offer assistance to staff in times of need. ♥️
In a survey done by UC Berkeley Staff Assembly, 29% of the 247 people surveyed in 2017 stated that they have had to choose between paying for food and paying for basic living costs (i.e. rent/mortgage, utilities, transportation, etc). Since then, the cost of living has increased significantly.

📣ICYMI: CUCSA's 2025–26 Year-End Report to the UC Regents is now available to watch.

Earlier today, 2025–26 CUCSA Chair Greta Halle and 2026–27 CUCSA Chair Brian Light presented CUCSA's Year-End Report during the UC Regents Board Session.

The presentation highlights the Council's accomplishments during the 2025–26 cycle, including recommendations from the Sustainable Workforce and Wellbeing workgroups and other key initiatives supporting staff across the University of California.

CUCSA is participating in this week's UC Regents Meeting.

Tomorrow, 2025–26 CUCSA Chair Greta Halle (UCSB) and 2026–27 CUCSA Chair Brian Light (UCB) will present CUCSA's Year-End Report during the Board Session, highlighting CUCSA's accomplishments and recommendations from the 2025–26 year.

Also pictured are Greta and Brian with 2026–27 Staff Advisor to the Regents (STAR) Matt Hanson (UC Irvine) and STAR Designate Wendy Hunter Barker (UC San Diego). CUCSA values its partnership with the Staff Advisors to the Regents and the shared commitment to representing the perspectives of UC staff.

Then join us on July 7 from 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. for the virtual Summer Quarter Town Hall, where workgroup chairs and members will discuss their work and engage in conversation with attendees.

The CUCSA Spring Quarterly Meeting at UCSF brought together delegates with UC and campus leadership for discussions on the future of the staff experience across the University of California system.

Delegates heard updates from Systemwide Human Resources leadership, including Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Dianna Henderson and Associate Vice President of Employee & Labor Relations Missy Matella, on workforce priorities and current staff experience. Systemwide budget and operating updates were shared by Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Rachael Nava and Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Nathan Brostrom, with discussion focused on the evolving financial landscape and institutional sustainability.

Additional sessions featured Academic Senate Chair Ahmet Palazoglu on academic governance, workforce development leaders Nancy Chen Lane and Andrea King on professional development and AI-enabled workforce upskilling, and UCSF leadership including Chancellor Sam Hawgood and Jeffrey Chiu on talent management, operations, and navigating change across higher education and healthcare.

Across sessions and delegate discussions, CUCSA reinforced priorities including employee engagement, workforce wellbeing, professional development, transparent communication, and strengthening staff voices through shared governance and systemwide collaboration.
