Spent today wandering through Chitungwiza Art Centre, taking photos and thinking about our next shipment for House of Stone.

There’s a difference between liking a sculpture here and deciding which pieces to bring back for an exhibition. Today was mostly about looking. Still working on the deciding.

Morning over Johannesburg. Two nights of travel behind me—from SFO via Munich to Johannesburg—and one more flight to Harare.

I’m heading back to Zimbabwe to visit our Kapnek colleagues, school communities, and artists through our work with House of Stone.

Lots of sculpture activity today. The graceful “dancer”, at about 400 lbs and 5’4’’, the biggest sculpture of the collection, finally also is part of the exhibit Marin Art and Garden Center. The next largest is 4’10’’ and maybe 200 lbs is “Family Time”, just across the lawn. From the small “Watching Bird” to “Imagination”, to the “Learners”, they all returned today. Tuesday, Aug 25, 6:30pm at Marin Art and Garden Center, we’ll stroll the gardens together and trace the story of Zimbabwean stone sculpture, from its origins through the work of Dominic Benhura.
Free to attend. All sculptures available for purchase, with proceeds supporting rural schools in Zimbabwe.
