Happy Birthday to Malcolm X and Yuri Kochiyama — two transformational leaders whose friendship and activism reflected the power of Black and Asian solidarity in the fight for justice and liberation.

Their legacy continues to inspire our work for equity, dignity, and collective action.

WE DID THIS!

Thousands of educators, OEA members alongside our partners at CTA, shared their stories, signed petitions, and showed up at the Capitol to fight for pregnancy leave.

Now, this critical legislation, championed by Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry, has been included in the May Revise. Fourteen weeks of paid pregnancy leave will be transformational for educators and families across California.

We’re proud to stand with CTA in this fight and we’re not done yet. Let’s keep pushing to ensure this vital policy is included in the final state budget this June.

Historic day in Sacramento! ✊🏾📚

Oakland labor, education leaders, and city leadership joined together with Los Angeles Unified School District and UTLA for a joint lobby day advocating for fully funding public education through Proposition 98.

Representing Oakland were OEA President Kampala Taiz-Rancifer, SEIU Local 1021 President Trish Belenson, Superintendent Dr. Denise Saddler, Oakland City Council President Kevin Jenkins, School Board President Dr. Jennifer Brouhard, Vice President Valarie Bachelor, AFSCME President Michelle Jeter, and BCTC Chief Steward Besha Kuljulvic.

We were also proud to stand alongside Richard Barrera Richard Barrera, candidate for California State Superintendent of Public Instruction and former San Diego Unified School Board President.

When labor, educators, families, and public leaders unite, we send a powerful message: California students deserve fully funded public schools.

A coalition of education advocates gathered at the state Capitol on Thursday to urge Gov. Gavin Newsom to amend his budget plan and provide more funding for ...

Happy Birthday, Dolores Huerta!

A former classroom teacher who went on to organize workers in the fields, your lifelong fight for dignity, justice, and workers’ rights has inspired generations.

OEA is proud to stand in solidarity with your legacy. ¡Sí, se puede! ✊🏽

Today we recognize National Farmworkers Day and honor the essential workers who put food on our tables and sustain our communities every day.

Farmworkers are the backbone of our economy, yet too many continue to face unsafe conditions, low wages, and limited access to basic protections. Their work deserves dignity, respect, and fair treatment.

At OEA, we stand in solidarity with farmworkers and the ongoing fight for equity, justice, and safe working conditions for all workers.
