OEA members fought for the specialists our students depend on — and won.

Our new contract includes major gains for psychologists, speech language pathologists, and social workers, including:

✅ Nearly 30% salary increase aligned with market-rate compensation
✅ More flexible work days
✅ More equitable caseloads for school psychologists
✅ A commitment to social worker input through a joint committee

These wins help Oakland schools recruit and retain the specialists who support students’ learning, mental health, communication, and well-being every day.

OEA members fought for better support for specialists — and won.

Our new contract includes:

✅ Reduced counselor staffing ratios to 450:1
✅ Better access and support for teacher substitutes, including keys, student information, and an additional sick day
✅ $7 book allotment per student for teacher-librarians
✅ Visual and Performing Arts teacher budget allotments provided before the beginning of the school year

These wins help specialists do the work our students rely on every day — from counseling and libraries to arts education and classroom support.

OEA members fought for stronger support for Special Education — and won.

Our new contract includes:

✅ 13% wage increase over 2 years for educators at the top step
✅ 11% wage increase over 2 years for educators at all other steps
✅ Additional 4% for credentialed SPED teachers
✅ Recognition of blended caseloads with caps
✅ Extension of the SPED Workload Pilot

These wins matter for educators, students, and families. They help address workload, improve retention, and strengthen the support our students deserve.

Our new contract reduces elementary professional development days from 4 to 2, giving educators more time to apply what they learn, prepare for instruction, and focus on high-quality teaching for Oakland students.

Our new contract includes:

✅ Class size cap of 24 for kindergarten
✅ Class size cap of 24 for 1st grade
✅ $1,500 stipend for combo classes

These wins mean more support for our youngest students and better learning conditions for educators.

This happened because of worker power, family power, community power, and a labor-supportive board.

OEA members fought hard — and won real gains for Oakland educators.

Our new contract includes:

✅ 13% wage increase over 2 years for educators at the top step
✅ 11% wage increase over 2 years for educators at all other steps
✅ Increase to Extra Duty Rate
✅ Up to 20 years of service credit to help recruit veteran educators
✅ Protected 11-month pay for hard-to-staff high schools
✅ Doubled athletic coach stipends

These wins matter. They help recruit and retain experienced educators, strengthen our schools, and support the people who show up every day for Oakland students.

The Oakland Education Association stands in solidarity with the C&H Sugar workers of ILWU Local 6 as they enter their second month on strike in Crockett.

Our unions share a home in the East Bay and a shared struggle to defend healthcare benefits for workers and retirees. OEA knows that solidarity between unions matters. It is how we protect our members, our benefits, and our communities.

We proudly extend that solidarity to ILWU Local 6 because an injury to one is an injury to all.

OEA also supports ILWU longshore workers refusing to offload sugar reportedly harvested at the site of the Toboso Massacre in the Philippines.

No blood in our sugar.
