Last night, Superintendent Thurmond spent some time with inspiring youth from the Oakland area at an event hosted by Oakland Promise Naacp Oakland Imani Youth Counsel Kingmakers of Oakland and other AA/Black youth leaders. Superintendent Thurmond's role was to be an “Adult Listener” as the youth leaders had specific asks/calls to action to support the evening's focus: The Black Agenda: Mental Health and the Educational System.
"I’ve always believed that not only are your voices important for helping us shape our future, but your voices also help us focus on the issues we need to address right this moment. You’re our ears and eyes on the ground", Superintendent Thurmond said as he addressed the youth.
