During this week, we met at Josie de la Cruz park each day and took the bus up to the magical meadow of Joaquin Miller park. We continued with the same structure with facilitators and kids making offerings, and then kids setting their intentions for the day.

One of the things different about this than conventional school and even most other summer camps is that at any one given moment… different children are doing different things because they chose that activity. During this week, often one group was hiking, while another was doing art, and another was playing hide-and-seek. Some kids practiced using a sling shot, others found magical hideouts, and others kicked around the soccer ball. We ended the week with a collective hike overseeing Oakland and SF.

June 21-24 —> Most kids were so excited to see other kids and be able to play and interact again, after being quarantined and zooming.

There was some social anxiety, too… that took some time to overcome.

Kids jumped into the flow pretty quickly choosing their activities, making friends, being creative, being active.

21-24 de junio ->

OakSPIRE is starting in less than a week!

We are looking for the following items.
- Origami Paper
- Frozen bananas, frozen berries (for smoothies and popsicle-- making)
- Popsicle sticks (regular size)
- Fresh veggies/fruit
- Mini-glue gun sticks
- Board games (with all the pieces)
- Uno and other card games
- Soccer ball(s)
- Football(s)
- Double-dutch jump ropes
- Clipboards

I probably will not be able to pick items up from all over, so ideally these can be dropped off. I might add more to this list as we go.

We are also trying to raise money so we can pay a local BIPOC youth to help facilitate, and for other items such as bus passes, etc.
