September is National Su***de Prevention Month. In a 2023 national survey, more than 1 in 10 Black high school students reported attempting su***de in the previous year. We cannot assume someone is okay because they appear strong, successful, or surrounded by people.

Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of. And someone does not need a diagnosis to deserve support.

One action you can take today: Check on a friend, family member, or young person. Listen. If you’re concerned about their safety, ask directly: “Are you thinking about su***de?” Help them connect with support and follow up.

For free, confidential help at any hour, call or text 988 or visit 988lifeline.org. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.

We asked our members what they are most excited about as we step into this powerful new season of service, and the energy speaks for itself. Here is a preview of what is inspiring our sisters this year:
