Engineer Webinar Recap | FLS Building Systems 🧯🏢

Earlier this week, our engineering community came together for an informative and practical Engineer Webinar focused on Fire Life Safety: Elevators & Building Systems.

The session explored the important role elevator emergency communication systems play in building safety and emergency response. Attendees learned about system reliability, practical testing and maintenance considerations, evolving communication technologies, and strategies for strengthening Fire Life Safety readiness and compliance.

NFPA 70B compliance was also a major focus of the discussion, highlighting the importance of proactive electrical maintenance, documentation, testing, and planning to help keep building systems safe, reliable, and compliant.

A big thank you to our speakers, Don Holloway, Chief Manager of Field Services at Kings III Emergency Communications, and Tyler Sincock, Operations Manager at SI Testing, for sharing their expertise and real-world experience with our engineering professionals.

Oakland Pride is happening this Sunday, August 16, from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM at Frank Ogawa Plaza!

Rooted in Oakland's culture, history, and activism, Oakland Pride brings the community together to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, create space for connection and visibility, and honor the year-round work of uplifting LGBTQ+ people across generations.

National Back to School Prep Day 🎒📚

As students and families get ready for a new school year, we're proud to look back on our BSP Back to School Drive and the impact our BOMA OEB community helped make.

Through our partnership with BSP, volunteers came together to sort and prepare school supplies and backpacks for local students. Over the past few weeks, 58 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to students and families preparing for the year ahead.

We're incredibly grateful to BSP for the opportunity to partner on this effort and to everyone who donated their time and supplies to help make it possible. Thank you for helping students head into the new school year feeling prepared and supported! 🎒💙

Backpack to Briefcase | Exterior Maintenance Best Practices 🏢🔧

Yesterday's Backpack to Briefcase session was a little different from our usual format! Instead of a traditional presentation, attendees took part in a hands-on walk-and-talk experience at 555 12th Street with the Harvest Properties team and Arturo Perez from PF Building Services.

Best practices were discussed right where the work happens, including on the roof, around HVAC units, and at the building's exterior window cleaning areas. This interactive format gave attendees a closer look at key exterior systems, common maintenance considerations, and ways to help protect building assets and reduce long-term repair costs.

A big thank you to the Harvest Properties team — Ally Fitzmaurice, Brian Roberts, and Fernando Gomez — as well as Arturo Perez of PF Building Services for sharing their expertise and making the session so engaging!
