BOMA Oakland East Bay BOMA Oakland/East Bay has provided support and information to the commercial real estate industry in Alameda, Contra Costa, and Southern Solano counties.

BOMA Oakland/East Bay has provided support and information to the commercial real estate industry in Alameda, Contra Costa, and Southern Solano counties since 1924. Membership includes building owners, managers, developers, real estate brokers, facility managers, architects, lawyers and various suppliers to the industry. BOMA Oakland/East Bay is federated with Washington, D.C.-based BOMA International. Founded in 1907, the Building Owners and Managers Association International is a dynamic federation of 99 local associations whose members own or manage over 9 billion square feet of downtown and suburban commercial properties and facilities in North America and around the world. BOMA International actively and responsibly represents and promotes the interests of the commercial real estate industry through effective leadership and advocacy, through the collection, analysis and dissemination of information, and through professional development. The membership collectively represents all facets of the commercial real estate industry.

Hispanic Heritage Month | Community Spotlight 🌿

As we close out Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re wrapping up our community spotlight series with a look at NIDO’s BackYard in Jack London Square.

Founded by Silvia Hernández-McCollow and Cory McCollow, this Latino-owned gathering space brings Mexican cuisine, traditions, hospitality, and community together in a distinctly Oakland setting. Through events and shared experiences, NIDO’s BackYard helps showcase the evolving ways Latino culture is celebrated throughout the East Bay.

From the stories we carry to the places where we gather, heritage continues to connect generations and strengthen our communities.

Backpack to Briefcase | Tenant Relations Recap 🤝🏢

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our latest Backpack to Briefcase session at The Hub at California Plaza in Walnut Creek!

Our panelists, Josh Dion of Harvest Properties, Corey Williams of GSH Group, Arturo Perez Ochoa of PF Building Services, and Sawyer Norried of CBRE, joined moderator Luis Adame with GSH Group to share insights on building strong tenant relationships through effective communication, proactive problem-solving, and creating positive tenant experiences.

From addressing tenant concerns to supporting long-term retention and property value, the discussion highlighted how strong relationships are essential to successful property management.

Thank you to our speakers, moderator, and attendees for sharing their knowledge and making this another valuable learning opportunity for our BOMA OEB community! We wrapped up the afternoon with networking and great conversation. 🙌

Hispanic Heritage Month | Community Spotlight 🌮🌎

From a tamale cart to a beloved Oakland business, the story of Las Guerreras is one of perseverance, family, and entrepreneurship.

Founder Ofelia Barajas, originally from Guerrero, Mexico, spent more than 15 years selling tamales as a street vendor before opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant with her daughter, Reyna Maldonado.

Today, their story is part of Oakland’s rich cultural fabric. Las Guerreras showcases how Latino-owned businesses can preserve traditions, create opportunity, and bring people together through food and community.

Stories like these are part of what makes our community so vibrant. 💙

Fall Tour & Toast | Henry J. Kaiser Center for the Arts 🎭🏢

Last week, BOMA OEB members stepped inside one of Oakland’s most iconic historic venues for a sold-out Fall Tour & Toast, bringing together a great group of members for an afternoon of learning, connection, and behind-the-scenes exploration.

Our tour took us through the Lakeview Club, North Stage Ballroom, Calvin Simmons Theatre, The Henry J. Underground Basement, and Henry J. Kaiser Arena. From exploring the building’s nearly century-long history to learning about the challenges of preserving its character while meeting modern building codes and operational needs, the tour offered a unique look at the property’s ongoing evolution.

A big thank you to James Sherwin and Adam Griffin for sharing their expertise and giving our members an inside look at the Center’s history, operations, facilities, and event spaces.

We wrapped up the afternoon with drinks, conversation, and networking at Mad Oak Bar ’N’ Yard. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a great afternoon! 🍻
